Maybe I'm the only one here who really cares since I go to Washington State so I'm sorry for creating a worthless thread if that's the case xwhistlex but it appears that WSU and UW are nearing (or have already reached according to Tacoma's newspaper) a deal that would land our annual rivalry game in Qwest Field in Seattle from 2010 until 2016. This is virtually a home game for UW, despite the alumni and students we have in the greater Seattle area and quite frankly a terrible decision by our university despite the amount of money we gain for our athletic department from the deal. I can't even imagine having Cat/Griz played in Missoula every year with me being a Griz fan...

I suppose it's really only a problem if Wazzu won't sell out a full allotment of tickets

For example, Oklahoma and Texas play at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, in part because it's almost exactly between Norman and Austin. Still, outside of this game, Dallas is a Texas town (well, really a Cowboys town, but go with it). The stadium is simply split in half, and both sides sell out their allotted seats, so it's a truly "neutral" game

Plus, it'll make both schools a s***load of money, which is of course the real reason for doing it xnodx

You can add the UF/UGA game to that list, although it seems the Bulldogs are trying to move the game to ATL when they are the home team. Games like this are made for big money, if you're not playing at their home stadium I don't see the big deal.

the difference between this and the other "neutral site" rivalry games is that Wazzu (Pullman) is 290 miles from Seattle... while UW is in Seattle

As a de-facto Coug (I was born there), my Dad (who went to school there) and I both agree this is a terrible decision on WSU's part. I can understand the economics of it, but this guarantees a home game for the Huskies every year. It is too bad that decisions like this come down to just one factor....money.

Army and Navy's stadiums are half the size of Lincoln, Meadowlands and M&T (don't forget they've played in B'more too). xpeacex

Shellin,

I'm pretty sure the Apple Cup to Qwest Field deal is dead. Washington wanted an extra 7000 tickets to satisfy their season ticket holders, meaning they want 7000 of WSU tickets since they were already split 50/50. WSU can't do that, and the deal is dead.

I'll look up a link for you.

Back in the 20's, 30's and 40's, the Cat-Griz game was played every year in Butte (back then it was known as "The Butte Game"). My grandma (UM grad 1930) used to say that the reason was because the UM students would tear up Bozeman if the game was there, and the MSU students would tear up Missoula if the game was there. Butte was more accustomed to riots and frivioltry back then. Unlike what Washington was going to do with the Apple Cup, Butte was almost exactly halfway between the two, before I-90 was built (shortening the distance to Bozeman by 35 miles).
