It actually made Berman's #1 play, but I watched the play live and said to Mrs89 'that may be the single best play I've EVER seen in football at any level'. Nevada hosting Fresno (why I was watching this game is beyond me)... up 38-35 with the ball and only about 30 seconds remaining and Fresno out of time outs... the ball at the Fresno 30 something, the Nevada RB breaks free and is going into the endzone... he slows down and takes a knee at the one instead of going in for the TD. An unbelievably heads-up and unselfish play as there is no way Fresno can win if they never get the ball back. I'm telling you, I'd draft this kid in a heartbeat in the spring. He was the WAC's leading rusher and I've NEVER seen such a smart play from anyone at any level in football.

There's no way Fresno could have won had he scored either. I'll give him credit for good sportsmanship, but "heads-up" is a bit of a stretch.

I don't see any way he stopped because of fear of running up the score being up only 3 points against a team that was heavily favored. I'm sticking to my guns on the call that is was to keep the clock going.

I assume they got a first down on the play. Wouldn't they stop the clock to move the chains?

EDIT: The clock would still run out after the chains were set. I still see it as taking a three point victory as opposed to ten. Just like a QB taking a knee 1st and goal from the one...

Nothing like that. A QB takes a knee to avoid any mishaps on a handoff, it's the safest play. This guy was running in untouched. How many times do you see a defensive player with the clock running down make an acrobatic interception on 4th down instead of knocking the ball down, or worse, trying to run the ball back once they do intercept?

I'm telling you, I've NEVER seen a player stop short of the goal line when he can walk in for the TD. The closest thing I've seen is a player going down inbounds instead of running out, but even then, I'd say about 50% of the time they don't do that correctly.

But even it was done to not run the score up... it's just such a contrast to the showboating going on in football. In the same broadcast, SportsCenter showed all of asshole Chad Johnson's antics after scoring TD's. If I'm a D player and he does that, I take the 15 yarder just to go in and deck him when he does this ****. I thought the NFL had stopped this crap. :nonono2:

This one smells fishy to me. Sports gambling is legal in Nevada, and the game was in Reno. What was the over/under? Maybe the kid's "grandma" had money riding on the "under" and didn't want her to lose!
:D :D :D :D :D

True, but I remember a certain Coastal player running our of bounds just before the goal line rather than take a safety.... :D

As much as I hate to remember November 19, Lehigh's Defensive Tackle, Royce Morgan-about 6'3", 265 lbs, chased down Lafayette's tailback, Jonathan Hurt after Hurt had broken free off left end was was going to score a touchdown. Morgan chased him and caught him after 61 yards!!
Talk about a kid with no quit in him. Would have been the turning point of the game had 'other things' not happened :(
On a bright note, Morgan is expected back next year on a medical redshirt since he broke his ankle in the second game of 2004 against Villanova. What a player...

Wow you are a cynic!!!. But you are funny. For the record I love Reno, Lake Tahoe and all of Northern Nevada. It is the only place you can get a decent one deck black jack game.

The player's move assured the game. A TD kickoff can be run back and then the on - side kick. Yes the scenario is farfetched but the guy chose not to pad his stats, to his credit

My thoughts EXACTLY!!!!!!! LOL

A good, smart, heads up play. But not deserving of a #1 for this week, this year, or whatever it was. IMO

I'll take Chad Johnson proposing to a cheerleader, or any of his other stuff, over T.O. any day of the week.

Chad Johson rocks. He is funny and entertaining. Some good TD celebrations. And there is nothing wrong with a good TD celebration, IMO, just as long as it is not taunting the defense or a defensive player. All in fun, lighten up people.

You want to stop that stuff as a defensive player, then fine go ahead, all you gotta do is stop Chad from scoring. Or TO. TO, when he was in SF and grabbbed the cheerleaders pom poms, that was a great one.

Steve Smith has some good ones also.
