What's interesting is that that formula does not work as well when you're talking about FCS. For instance: Maine has 8 players in the NFL and Hampton has 7 while Appalachian State has 5 and Richmond has 3.

Yeah you could clearly see his research was mostly looking at FBS schools. In FCS I think there is really no correlation as some teams simply win because they out coach others and some teams like Hampton and Maine have had a lot of NFL talent but possibly didn't have the coaching that ASU, Richmond, etc. have had. Then there is a team like Montana with 7 players in the NFL, which is among the highest, and they are a perennial powerhouse.
