Just got back from Fenway today. Beckett looked sharp and it's good to see Tek start the season with a home run.
This was my fifth straight home opener at Fenway Park and the Red Sox have won all five of those games. Seems like I'm the good luck charm. xnodx

Yeah, he looked very good. The only knock on him is that, like Dice K for the Red Sox, he walks so many guys and throws so many pitches that he's basically a 5-6 inning pitcher. So your bullpen had better be ready to go behind him. That's what keeps him from being a true ace.

ya it is about the money, and until they ditch Fenway for a new stadium they will need to keep doing things like this to atleast stay within sight of New York money wise.

You aren't kidding!
I love Fenway too, but the reality is it's woefully outdated, even with the improvements. Larry Lucchino has said the Red Sox can play baseball at Fenway for the next 40-50 years. I don't buy it. I think Boston's goal is to reach Fenway's centennial anniversary in 2012. After that don't be surprised to see plans for a brand new ballpark.

i hope so.... they need to find some place right off the highway with lots of open area so they can have a huge parking lot too...
Oh btw, the Bruins announced today they will be playing at Fenway on January 1, 2010.

Seriously, near the highway with lots of open area puts you way outside 128. That sure hasn't been the trend of the new stadiums built. They had a good idea when they proposed that site across the channel from South Station, but of course screwed the pooch on it. Near the waterfront, near public transportation, near I-93, at the time a relatively spacious layout, etc.
I'm not holding my breath waiting to see a new stadium for the Sox, but Fenway Park will beat the heck out of Parsons for Northeastern football games!!! ;) xwhistlex xwhistlex :D :D

I quickly adjusted to the red hat with blue brim that they introduced in 1975 (IIRC), but this new one will not be accepted quickly. And it isn't because I'm 30+ years older! xnonox xlolx xlolx I just don't like the hat.
As for the shirt, I find the navy blue to be a more traditional color for the Red Sox. I understood going toward all the red shirts especially since that team from da Bronx has navy blue as a primary color. But the red letters on blue, just like the traditional hat, is the Red Sox.
No surprise either that a Yale and UNH guy would prefer navy blue! xeekx :p :p :D :D :D :D :D

Not directed solely at you but everyone in general who does this. One of my big pet peeves is when people use the "first time since" something happened recently. September 2 was only about 30 regular season games ago. That's not enough games to do a first time since... (and it was actually Sept 1 not Sept 2 - I looked it up)

By Travis Liles (UNHWildCats)
Clay Buchholz will make his season debute Friday.
With two starting pitchers going to St. Louis Boston will use Buchholz Friday before moving into their normal 5 man rotation.
No idea on rotation specifics but one would assume Lester goes Saturday, Beckett Sunday and then Smoltz, Penny and Wakefield would be penciled in behind them.
Boston has several moves to make later this week with Jed Lowrie and Mike Lowell returning. The likliest of moves will be Bates optioned to Pawtuckett Friday to make room for Buchholz. Then Julio Lugo likely will be designated for assignment to make room for Lowrie or Lowell. After Buchholz pitches he will be optioned back to AAA to make room for Lowell or Lowrie, which ever didnt get activated Friday.
Boston begins the second have against Toronto. The Sox enter the break three games ahead of New York.

Red Sox just designated Julio Lugo. The Lugo error in Boston comes to a costly end, Sox still owe him about $13 million.
Over the past few days Boston has been trying to unload him for anything, willing to pay every cent still owed him... in the end they couldnt even get a used jock strap for him.

Buchholz allowed 1 run on four hiuts in 5 2/3 innings last as Boston beat Toronto 4-1. Buchholz was optioned back to Pawtuckett and the Red Sox will activate Jed Lowrie today.
The latest we will see Buchholz again will be when rosters expand on September 1, but Boston may want to give the aging Tim Wakefield a vacation later this summer so he doesn't ware down in October, so we could see Buchholz return mid August.
Of course he could come back sooner if there is an injury, but they sure are hoping that doesn't happen.
