Wrapping up in the next week. Big surprises this season have to include the Caps looking like a strong contender, Boston wrapping up the East and St. Louis and Columbus fighting for a playoff spot after dismal seasons last year. Nashville MUST take care of business to get to the playoffs! They play (in no particular order), Minnesota, Detroit, and (Chicago I believe). The Predators vs. Wild will be the biggest of the three games. Lets go Predators!!!! xthumbsupx

I'm a Rangers fan and I'm not really scratching my head. Haha. I knew going into this season that Sather put together a pretty mediocre team and that's exactly what they've proven to be despite the hot start.

The Rangers are such an odd team with a bunch of guys who can score about 20 or more: Drury, Naslund, Antropov, Callahan, Gomez, Avery & Zherdev but none of them can produce offensively on a consistent basis. Antropov and Avery were late additions though so maybe they can make a little noise if they make it into the playoffs and Lundqvist continues to play to his high level, but I'm not holding my breath.

They did get a big win last night against Montreal and also got helped by our friends for the day, the Flyers, who beat the Panthers in regulation. If the Rangers win one more or if the Panthers and Sabres lose one more each the Rangers will clinch a spot. I'm kind of hoping the Rangers can leapfrog the Canadians for a first round matchup with the Caps. A) because I live in the DC area and B) the Caps offense is incredible but their defense and especially goal-tending is very suspect. A good series from Lundqvist and I could see the Rangers maybe stealing one.

If I was a Flyers or Pens or Devils fan the team I would want to avoid in the first round right now is the Canes. They are on fire.

RE: Buffalo

The Sabres are mathematically still alive because if they win out they can finish with 91 points. They hold the tiebreaker over the Rangers. So the Sabres would have to win out and the Rangers would have to earn zero points in their home-and-home with the Flyers. They would also need the Panthers to only pick up at the max 2 points in their final 2 games as well. Not easy.

Maybe. Price is playing terribly for the Habs though. I can definitely envision them losing their last two while the Rangers could split their home and home with Philly. Rangers finish in 7th, Canadians (or Panthers) in 8th.

Nope, guess that's what happens when you decide to break up a core that went to two straight conference finals. Though I do think they would have made the playoffs if it weren't for the Ryan Miller injury, they were around fifth in the conference when he went down and went I think 4-7 without him. Might have been Scott Gomez' biggest contribution to the Rangers' playoff pushxnonono2xxnonono2x

I hope you're not insinuating that that was a cheap shot on Gomez'z part? It's pretty obvious he lost his edge a bit when he was trying to stop and unfortunately ran into Miller. Cry Baby Ruff can bitch and moan all he wants but from the looks of things I don't think it was intentional.

I'm not, but I believe it was Gomez that made the contact. Sabres were 4-7-2 without Miller and I think they would have the 4-6 extra points they need if he didn't miss that time.

I'm actually glad they start on the road. They had 20 road wins this year. Philly teams generally play well on the road without the home crowd pressure, and in the NHL playoffs in particular home ice means little.

That being said, the Pens are on fire right now. I forget the exact number, but I believe they finished the season 18-3-4 or something. That's impressive.
