As was pretty much expected around these parts Washington State announced Ken Bone as our next head coach. Bone is an ex-UW assistant who also worked with our AD when they were both at SPU. He did pretty well the past few years with Portland State, hopefully we can adjust to a very very different tempo with him as coach than we had with Bennett.

Hopefully Bone is not taking too big a step here. The only coach that comes to my mind that went directly from the Big Sky to the Pac-10 was Mike Montgomery. The usual progression is through the WAC or Mountain West. Bone knows the Pac-10 having been an assistant with Washington (Wazzu should not hold that against him), though, and the WSU athletic director started at PSU as well. My congrats to Coach Bone and WSU did get a good hire.

One name coming to mind to replace Bone at PSU is Cameron Dollar, assistant at Washington and former Duke player. This could be a good hire for the Vikings, however my take is that I don't know how long Dollar would stay at PSU. Another name being batted around is fomer Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks coach (and former Blazer guard) Terry Porter. I can't see Porter as a college coach anywhere, let alone PSU, but having a big name football coach (Glanville) in the fold, maybe the basketball team needs a big name as well. Like Dollar, though, I don't know how long Porter would stay at PSU. Portland does remember the Blazer teams of the early '90s pretty fondly and PSU could benefit from having Porter as the coach just as much as Glanville, in that there would always be a buzz circulating about PSU basketball.
