Albany's Bush Gets Good News

UAlbany receiver granted another year with Danes.

ALBANY — A cruel joke had a thrilling outcome for University at Albany senior wide receiver Tim Bush.

UAlbany assistant coach Eric Evans somberly told Bush on Feb. 10 the NCAA had denied his appeal for a fifth year of eligibility, which meant his career was over.

“I was pretty much shocked and sat there for about five minutes, probably wanting to tear his head off,” recalled Bush, who’s from Saratoga Springs. “I was very angry.”

Then Evans broke a smile. He was only kidding.

Great news for the Danes.

Also coming back for a 6th year is Free/strong safety Dave Nicomini. Nicomini was an all-conference safety in 2007, but was out last season with a blown out knee.

Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany head football coach Bob Ford and his coaching staff know what performances that will get from All-America tailbacks and all-conference linebackers. But the unknown are the younger players. Their opportunity to be evaluated and develop comes during spring practice.

“Hopefully they have paid attention as members of the look squad,” said Ford about the true freshman who are finishing up their first full season with the program after spending time running the opponents’ plays last fall. “This is where they can prove they belong on the bus and warrant a little closer look.”
