The Chicago Bears pulled the big upset Thursday afternoon by acquiring Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, a source told ESPN.com.

The Broncos confirmed the move.

Terms of the trade weren't immediately available, but the Bears had to beat out the Redskins, Buccaneers, Lions, Titans and other teams to get land the 25-year-old Pro Bowl quarterback.

The Broncos had been asking for at least two first-round choices.

Cutler asked to be traded when he found out first-year coach Josh McDaniels tried to acquire Matt Cassel in a trade with the Patriots.

Cutler had not returned phone calls from the Broncos, according to the team, and had been staying away from the offseason program.

Yay, we now have a whiney quarterback instead of one who's barely NFL quality. Not sure if this is second coming of Jim McMahon or Rex Grossman.

Quite a lot to give up, too. Maybe Chicago needs to find a wedding dress that fits Cutler?

I'm so pissed about this.

Cutler whiney? Maybe a little, but I think this McDaniel guy is a Belichek type a-hole, without the resume to go with it. I hope it all turns out well for Denver, but i'm not very confident.

Kyle Orton....for real??

I agree, McDaniels had alot of balls. This might be his only head coaching opportunity because no one will want to touch him if he blows up in Denver.

Just made the Bears a serious contender for the NFC.

Whining?

I would be pissed too if the new coach and front office was trying to trade me before talking to me. Especially after a season worthy of making the Pro Bowl.

Gonna be another season for the Chargers to beast on the Donkeys. xnodx

This still doesn't change the fact that the Bears have no o-line, no receivers and an aging defense that isn't what it used to be.

It wasnt the Bears, TB, and Washington were all going to give Denver what they wanted, the Bears just did it though...A good t rade now that Pace is signed too

Bears have Pro Bowler Olin Kreutz, signed Orlando Pace, have 1st rounder Chris Williams from last season and signed 2 more OLs in free agency...All we need now is another WR like Tory Holt

And now we dont need to worry about a QB for 8-10 years Cutler is only 25!!!

It was the Bears because they were the ones that made the deal. I would be saying the same thing about TB or Wash if they said the same thing.

I don't think it was a good trade. Nobody gets traded for as much as Cutler did. If things start to go bad in Chicago, they have traded their future away.

I hope Pace works out but last year was the first in 3 years that he played a lot because of injuries. I think that was a good signing though with or without the Cutler trade.

Will a player like Cutler be available with the 18th pick in this years draft? How about with that 3rd round pick, can you get a pro bowl QB with that one?

Great move by the bears. A 25 yo pro bowl QB. You normally have to draft in the top 5 picks to get yerself one of those. Bears are instant contenders in the NFC.

Two 1st rounders and a 3rd plus your starting QB is A LOT... kinda reminds me of when the Vikings traded the Cowboys 3 Super Bowls for Herschel Walker.

The Bears put a lot of their eggs in Cutler's basket and we won't know for a few years whether or not he was worth it. Kudos to the Broncos front office for getting maximum value on a player they had no leverage with after they committed to trade him.

I would've loved to see Cutler as a Viking but after giving up 3 good draft picks for Jared Allen last year, the price was way too steep.

Broncos news conference noon central and Cutler Bears news conference 5pm Central...If you look at the crap Jerry Angelo has usually drafted for their offensive skill positions in the 1st round, you will realize why giving up the picks isnt a bad idea for Chicago...People outside of Chicago do not realize how we have never had a real good QB in the last 25 years...3 picks for a Pro Bowl QB who has at least 10 years of football in him is a good get....now if he was 30, different story, but Cutler is only 25!!! Better than Sage Rosenfels, Aaron Rogers, and Matthew Stafford!! Pkus we all klnow the Bears Df/St is what drives the team

Big difference between a running back and a WR. Most NFL RB's - even the ones with big numbers - are interchangeable. The ones with big numbers generally are the ones beyond the best offensive lines. Trading away a ton of picks for Herschel was dumb.

QB is a different story - yes, a good offensive line will make a QB better, but there are a lot less QB's to choose from.

Add in that first round picks are incredibly overpriced (2nd rounders are where the value is at), and this is a good deal for the Bears.

Here's an irony... when Elway pulled the same stunt in '83, the Broncos gave up a QB (Mark Hermann) and 2 first rounders (OL Chris Hinton who they drafted in the same '83 draft, and their 1st pick of the 1985 draft - OG Ron Solt)

Newly-acquired Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is known for holding a grudge, and he still seems to be holding one against Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner stemming from an old recruiting dispute, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Citing people close to Cutler and a Denver Post column, some fences may need to be mended between Cutler and Turner now that they're going to work together.

As a high school senior in southern Indiana, Cutler accepted a scholarship to Illinois where Turner was the head coach at the time. Cutler committed without visiting campus, though, and when he arrived for an official visit Turner reportedly pulled the offer.

FWIW, Joe Flacco was picked 18. Also two of the QB's in this year's Pro Bowl were picked outside of the 1st round and one wasn't even drafted. You never can tell with the draft, great players slip and workout wonders rise.

The Daily Norseman (a Vikings blog) makes a very good point about the Cutler trade:

Did the Bears acquire Brandon Marshall in this trade as well? How about Eddie Royal? The Bears are one of the few teams in the NFL that are worse off at receiver than Minnesota is. Their most effective pass play is "throw the ball deep to Devin Hester, have him purposely run into the defensive back, and accept the flag for pass interference." Cutler really doesn't do a heck of a lot to change this. Brandon Lloyd isn't Brandon Marshall, and Devin Hester isn't Eddie Royal.

You're right, it'll change. Royal will still be putting up big numbers and Hester won't have a crappy QB to blame for his poor performance anymore. Devin Hester isn't anywhere near the receiver Eddie Royal is, he should have stuck to defense and returning punts.
