The Kentucky program has been passed up in their own state by Western Kentucky. I truly believe this and I've got no allegiances to either program.
Getting rid of Billy Clyde was not the best move and UK program will probably end up with the 10th guy, if not someone further down their wish list. That's how they ended up with Billy Clyde in the first place.
Billy Clyde will go to another program and quickly have them surpass the UK program. It's not going to be much to ask for.

And if they get the right coach in there and start winning again (as is very possible for them to do) then they fly right by WKU in a heartbeat. It's not like it's impossible to win and to win titles at Kentucky, and with the right coach, they start doing that again.

No question there - but this program should not even be debated year to year on whether or not they are better than Western Kentucky. The last two years, it was not hard to go with the team in Bowling Green, Ky.

It's going to take big $$ to get Mrs. Donovan to allow Billy to leave Gainesville. Something sweeter than the Magic did.
If Kentucky had any kind of point guard play they would be in the big dance. No reason for a team with Meeks and Patterson to not be in the field of 65. I've never seen a team so sloppy with the ball. A smart coach will have them back in the hunt, they can get kids with their name.

I will put this name out there Travis Ford from Ok. State
He was a player at UK and wanted the job 2 years ago but was told he didnt have enough big program experience, so he left Eastern Kentucky and went to Umass and now is at OK State. He will be a high prospect for the Job

That would be an interesting choice. Would Tom Crean leave the mess he inheirited at Indiana for Big Blue?
This one's for you TT since you were pretty close to it ... would Buzz Williams leave Marquette for Lexington?

Word in the coaching circles was that Buzz was looking at another destination prior to said team having postseason success.
And if Billy Clyde's problem was not understanding the balance between coaching and being the "face of the program" - Buzz is definitely not the man for the job. He has been notorious for supplying "one face" and then doing a 180 on the situation.
Of course, UK would want him to stay more than a year. Buzz has a history... xwhistlex

Why on earth could they not wait until after the next season? It really seemed as if he was rebuilding this once great program and never had enough of a chance.

Agreed. Give a guy more than 2 years. As some analyst said on ESPN tonight (I think it was Digger) they are going to be a good team next year with their talent and the coach is going to benefit from it even though they don't deserve the credit.

If you watched the UK press conference then they said that there were some other problems that exist that was a big part of him being let go. It wasn't all about wins and losses

It was about him being a jerk - at Texas A&M, it was okay - especially since football was king and prior to his arrival, no one really cared about the state of the basketball program.
At UK, not so much - not when you are the highest paid employee in the state and the program is people's lifeline.

I just saw this on ESPN Gillespie when confronted by a camera he turned around and ran away from it then had someone throw the cameraman out of the sports complex
Also I have heard from a friend at UK that Gillespie also had some drinking problems but I am not sure how true that is but I have heard that

Donovan has already said no. I hope all the big names turn them down, UK basketball reminds me of Notre Dame football.

Maybe, but at Kentucky it is always about W's and L's.
