I've said for maybe 3-4 years that i don't believe Coach K will win another title. I don't think he recruits the talent neccessary to compete at the highest level. Duke usually has 1 or 2 really good players and a bunch of slow white guys. They got schooled tonight by 'Nova.

I have to agree. The game has changed and Coach K hasn't. He is used to having kids around for four years and isn't recruiting many the kids that will leave early. I also think the top kids are also reluctant to come to Duke these days.

His Duke teams reminds of Bobby Knight's Indiana squads of the 90's. They had a few really good players, but too many unathletic white guys. Maybe coach Coach K used too many of his mentors philosophies.

The game has passed him by, particularly in the area of recruiting modern athletes. Having Roy Williams at UNC hasn't helped either.

Agreed....Duke had no chance to even get halfway decent shots in that game. If Nova wasn't so cold in the first half it could have been over a lot earlier.

perhaps Coach K needed to focus on his coaching and his team instead of running around criticizing Obama recently xlolxxlolxxlolxxlolxxlolxxlolx

Well he's getting Seth Curry so let's see what he does with that.

First the guy still is consistently in the top 15 each year. The line can be very thin between losing and winning at times. Secondly, 4/32 shooting from the top two shooters will kill any team. Thirdly, perhaps Duke has some of the same problems Stanford and Notre Dame have---higher academic requirements which don't allow them to pursue the guy who only wants to be 'discovered' in a year or two and bolt.

I think the reason Coach K and Duke have faded from championship relevance is because Coach K has been recruiting the same kind of athlete for way too many years, and that would be the perimeter shooter. The entire reason Duke lost in the sweet 16 is because of their 3 point shooting (19% I believe it was). Coach K needs to get some guys on the team that present a legitimate threat in the paint. It's been at least 2 or 3 years since Duke really had a guy like that. If they can get one or two guys like that, then things may change for them.
But what do I care about Coach K or Duke? I despise them all.

Certainly could be a factor, but I personally don't put too much stock in that school of thought. Maggette, Brand, and Avery bolted and Josh Childress was set to go there and declared for the draft instead. I put more of the blame on not developing quality big men and too much emphasis on the 3 pointer. The long ball is not going to fall every night and that tends to show up in the tourney when playing in domes with poor sightlines. Duke's a private school and I imagine Coach K has a little leeway on the admissions front. He does however generally recruit solid kids, as does his neighbor, Coach Williams.
