That's 2 people from the Roger Maris Tourney that I talked to this summer that have passed away this year. Tom Tresh was the first, now Blanchard. Great Guy, RIP.

The former Minneapolis Central High School star played in five World Series with the New York Yankees. He was 76.

Johnny Blanchard could have stayed in his home town and played professional basketball with the Minneapolis Lakers, but his passion for baseball led him to play for the New York Yankees.

Well I talked to Roy Sievers, Whitey Herzog, Ken Sanders and Lou Cordileone, and I think they are all still doing good.

John Blanchard was born a decade too soon. He would have been a great power-hitting DH.

Blanchard was the catcher when Bill Mazeroski hit his walk-off HR in the 1960 World Series. Whenever asked what pitch he called for Yankess Pitcher Ralph Terry. Blanchard would always reply, "The Wrong Pitch".
