Bakersfield Businessman Relives Epic Harvard-Yale Game in Film

A team thinks they walk on water. Can’t lose. Looks at opponents like new grass — something to walk on.

But no matter how mighty the bombast, stunning the uniforms or glowing the newspaper clips, oh how the mighty can fall.

No one knows that age-old story better than local businessman Bruce Freeman, who played in what’s got to be one of the greatest upsets in football history — Ivy League football history at least. The game, which includes more subplots than a teenage love affair and a cameo role by former Bakersfield newscaster Don Clark to boot, has been captured in a new documentary winning critical raves in the bigger cities that get raved-about documentaries (alas, not Bakersfield — at least not yet).
