I am doing my fantasy baseball league once again with the same group of guys that we have had for several years. This year we decided to do a live draft and we are all getting together in two weeks to draft. I was wondering if there were any fantasy guys on here that may have a strategy to share. I ussually just take the ranking sheets and use those, but I never have any agenda as to the positions I try to fill up first...etc. If anyone has any suggestions, they will be appreciated.

2 weeks? Opening day is in 13 days!
Having my draft tonight. One of the owners is the GM of a Days Inn, we use his meeting room, and he gets beer and hooters wings. Same group of guys, give or take 1 or 2, for the past 10 years now. We do NFL, MBL and 70% of us do a NBA league too, all same guys.
I don't draft closers, I draft set up guys who get occaional save opportunities. One catagory players are a waste to draft.
...and for the record, I won the league in 06 and get atleast to the final four yearly, so I stick with what works for me.
Also, draft your power offensive players early. They don't last. I go first 5 round strictly position players, then stock up on SPs and fill in the rest. There are too many quality SPs to take one high.

thanks, yea our draft is april 4th on saturday and I think opening day is sunday the 5th or monday the 6th, cant remember which one. I have always tried to get a closer or two in the draft. I like to try and get at least 7 saves each week and 7 wins is always my goal.

I used to do more of what you are suggesting, trying to fill positions of scarcity (C, 2B, etc..) first so I could get solid players there. But I found I ended up reaching for guys, so now I just take the best player on the board regardless of position. I've made the final round three years straight now, so I'd suggest just don't overthink and get as many "guaranteed" stars as possible.

How many teams in your league? Head-to-Head or Roto? 5x5 scoring? I'll join a league or two, I usually am winning until August then if the league isn't serious enough I stop giving it the attention it needs. I never draft a SP high. I'm not sure I've ever had a guy like Johan.
