NFL sources have confirmed that the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers are looking to finalize a deal as soon as next week that would send Julius Peppers to the Patriots for the #34 overall pick the Patriots acquired in the Cassel trade to Kansas City.
The teams hope to finalize the deal before the start of the draft in April, the deal could be finalized by the time the NFL meetings wrap up early next week.

If the Panthers pull the trigger on that trade Marty Hurney should be run out of town! A second round pick for Peppers? He is worth at least a first and fourth round pick. The panthers need a first round pick this would be a dumb move.
I want to see the trade with Peppers bring Cutler to Carolina.

well a high second rounder is really a better value then a high first rounder because of how much guaranteed money u gotta pay... and a 3rd overall 2nd rounder isnt much different then a low first rounder.

The 2nd round pick is #34 overall, which is practically a first round pick. Honestly I think high 2nd round picks are more valuable than low first round picks. I don't know how much a team saves in guaranteed money between #34 and let's say #20, but I bet it's a lot. Of course if the cap goes away in 2010 and never comes back none of this means anything.

it'd still be important for small market teams.

True, but still a weak deal for Peppers. 2 second rounders would be fine but one second round pick is not worth it.

Well when you take into account that he very well could holdout, and his franchise tag figure would still count against their cap, it isnt that bad of a deal.

Nice idea, but how do we propose to pay him?

He did play b-ball at Carolina. Maybe there's a bench spot on the Celts for the league minimum or more... xeyebrowx

He can have Scalabrine's roster spot. Hell, I could probably fill Scalabrine's roster spot.
