View Full Version : Buzz Peterson, new Head Coach of Elon Basketball?

There's been a lot of buzz (sorry, couldn't pass that one up) about finding a replacement for Ernie Nestor after his resignation early this week. Buzz Peterson has met with AD Dave Blank and is considering taking over and getting back into the college game.

If this plays out, this would be a great hire IMO and would certainly help in recruiting. Another tidbit, assuming Wes Miller stays on as an assistant, we'd have two former UNC players on the bench! The perfect blend of my two favorite schools!

Have fun with that. He left Coastal after two years.

I would love it if we got Buzz Peterson. I've been mulling over some possibilities, few have come to mind, but I like the idea of someone folks in the area have heard of. And played for Dean.......I like it.

Buzz was a good coach at App. Good luck in the hire.

Hiring Buzz Peterson would, IMHO, be a bad move for your university. If you wind up hiring him, more power to you.

Just don't be surprised when he's out of there for a big money deal in 2 years or less.

For him to jump ship for a big money deal after two seasons would mean that he turned the program into a winner. If thats the case then I hope we hire him!

I did a Wiki on him to see his record. The only team he got to the NCAA's was ASU, whowent down in the first round. He got Tennessee to the NIT a couple of times, but that was it. Seems he hit his stride at ASU, but has had moderate success since then.

Well considering we haven't been in the NIT or the NCAA's, I'm willing to settle for his moderate success.

Not necessarily...he left CCU after 2 years for a big money deal without having turned us into a "winner," per se. We did better in the conference than we did without him, but he still left before he got anything significant done.

WKU is used to being the coaching stepping stone university

Gene Keady, Dennis Felton, Darrin Horn, Matt Kilcullen, Clem Haskins...... that's just the short list.

Good luck Elon if Peterson is your guy. :)

I hope he ends up being the one......and Elon has money, but can we pay him what he would make as director of player personnel for the Bobcats? I guess it boils down to how bad we want him at Elon.......and if other good candidates surface.

Did not realize that. Not knocking him for leaving us, but his jumping ship at Tulsa and Coastal has hurt his career IMO.

He did. I didn't realize that UT never made it to the NCAA's under Buzz.
