GRAMBLING — In this case, being on an eight-game winning streak — not to mention, having already sewn up a trip to the conference title game — doesn’t work in Grambling State’s favor.
The recent storylines in the Bayou Classic, GSU’s in-state rivalry game against Southern, have dealt with over-achievement.
"It’s a concern," said GSU coach Melvin Spears. "When you look at the history of this game, the underdog has come out on top. That’s been a stumbling block for our best teams, and theirs, too."
Kickoff for the Bayou Classic is 1 p.m. Saturday at Reliant Stadium, with the ESPN College Game Day broadcast beginning at 9 a.m. GSU is 8-1, 7-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, while Southern is just 4-4 overall and in the conference.
