View Full Version : 2008 CAA Tournament Replay (Second and Ten Football Sim)

Philliesfan980

All -

I'm not sure if anyone is interested in these types of things, but I'm going to be simulating the 2008 CAA tournament. I figured I would use the CAA teams mainly because I'm a Villanova fan, and the fact that the CAA was an outstanding conference last year.

I will be using Second and Ten football for this simulation. I will be manually playing the Villanova game(s) (hopefully), and simulating the rest. Here's the homepage for Second and Ten in case anyone is interested -

http://www.secondandten.com

I'm using the 2008 conference standings from the following page for the seeding -

http://www.caasports.com/standings/Standings.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8500&SPID=4660

Each divisions two top seeds will get bye's (New Hampshire, Maine, JMU & Nova) I seeded the South division first because of the divisions overall better record.

With that said, here is the initial schedule -

Round 1 -

North
Northeastern at Massachusetts (Maine awaits the winner)
Rhode Island at Hofstra (New Hampshire awaits the winner)

South
Towson at Richmond (Villanova awaits the winner)
Delaware at William & Mary (James Madison awaits the winner)

Not looking like a bad sim so far.

I expect the next one to be something like W&M 42 Delaware 3. The Delaware D will keep it at 14-3 through halftime, but then will give up completely after Schoenhoft throws INTs on back-to-back possessions to open the second half.

I guess the simulation gave you the results that everyone was expecting this year ;) We'll see how they fare against Nova in the next round.

Tough loss.. I hung in there for a while, but my defense eventually collapsed. Very sloppy game from Nova, a lot of false starts, etc. Richmond must have converted about 6 or 7 3rd and 8's with 9 yard completions. But I'm not bitter ;)

What a Championship game! With the game tied at 24-24, JMU was driving methodically down the field, when a botched handoff between Landers and Holloman lead to a 69 yard fumble return by Maine.

If any of you are into replaying FCS games, I would highly recommend this game. To my knowledge, it's the only computer sim on the market that has FCS teams. While it's not perfect (no computer sim is), the results are very believable in my opinion. I'd be open to doing another conference tournament (maybe Ivy) if anyone is interested.

You mean just replay the 2008 FCS playoffs? Sure! Let me know if this is what you're looking for, and I'll start a new thread.I'll probably just sim all the games.

I just setup the FCS playoffs. Let me do that one first, but you're right, that does sound like a good project. If you want to do the research for me and list the conf winners, suggest the seeds, and give the first round bye's, I'd appreciate it.

The Ivy league is going to hate us for doing this tournament.
