"We've now learned that since investigators began trying to build a case, they've made eight arrests: seven for drug possession and one for distribution. These are arrests that resulted as the sheriff's department served search warrants. We've also learned that the department has located and confiscated that bong. Sources say the owner of the bong was trying to sell it on eBay for as much as $100,000."
Looks like the cops searched the Frat house where the party took place via search warrants. All because some dumb a$$ took a picture of a famous person doing a bong hit at their party. One of them must have been dealing it or had a couple bags divided up to warrant the distribution charge. I wonder if the warrant will hold up in court? Can they legally get a search warrant b/c of a picture of Michael Phelps smoking a bong in the Frat house? What was that kid thinking selling a resinated bong on E-Bay?
This whole thing is getting ridiculous.

Is there a link to this story? That's how cops work now a days though, some kid got busted in Athens last year for saying how much he loved smoking and growing dope on his facebook account. It's an easy bust for the cops, the kids were dumb to think that the cops wouldn't be coming by their house after national publicity about an Olympic Superstar smoking at their pad.

The owner, who wasn't even at the party, is one of the eight now charged.
Hopefully he cleaned it before he tried to sell it on eBay... can't knock the kid for trying to make a profit, but I will be the first to call him a S$!T Tard if he didn't clean it out first.

Why don't these kids just say they were smoking pipe tobaco?
Too late since the cops already raided the Frat house and found pot in eight of their rooms. They should have known better with all the hype and got rid of their stash. Shame on the cops for fcking up 8 college students lives. University will probably kick them out.

Photographic evidence sounds like definite "probable cause" to me. And that is enough to get a valid warrant.

Oh yes. Shame on them for DOING THEIR JOBS.
Of course, I find many of this country's drug laws to be ridiculous and a waste of resources. But law enforcement officers have a duty to uphold the law, so I can't "shame" them for doing their jobs.

If they want to really "do their jobs" they should set up a photographic evidence task force and monitor facebook and myspace accounts and raid the houses of every person they see smoking weed in a picture.

I think it's likely that this case gets thrown out by some judge. However the fallout on Phelps' endorsements and the next Olympiad will most likely present more legal issues for him.

This is a good example of college Darwinism to me. If your frat house is under national scrutiny due to Phelp's involvement, wouldn't you hide your stash somewhere better than under your bed or someplace? The dust hasn't even settled on this, and these braniacs are probably still toking away at the house. If they weren't smart enough to see this coming, they probably don't belong in school.
