The Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks are in position to challenge NHL records for most wins and most points in a season.

Boston Bruins
The Bruins have collected 85 points in 54 games heading into a showdown Tuesday with San Jose. That comes to 1.57 points per game played, at that pace through the remainder of the season they will finish with 129 points, three shy of the record of 132 held by the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens.

They have also won 39 games or an average of .72 for every game played, if that pace continues they would win 59 games, like points they would be three short of the record 62 wins set by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1995-96 season.

Remaining games include 11 games against teams currently in the top 6 of their conference and 17 currently 7th and lower.

San Jose Sharks
The Sharks have collected 79 points in 50 games, thats 1.58 points per game, at that pace they would finish with 128 points, four shy of the record.

They have won 36 games in 50 tries, or .72 wins for every game played, at the current pace they would win 58 games on the season, or four shy of the NHL record.

Remaining games include 12 against teams currently 6th or higher and 20 against teams 7th and lower.

What's even more impressive is that those '77 Canadiens did it when you didn't get any points for losing in OT xeekx

Sharks get 2 points closer to that record with a 5-2 win at the Hub

4 goals in the 3rd for the Sharks xeekx

Is this the year they avoid choking short of the Finals? xwhistlex

Very disappointing ending to the game. Nabokov's save on Savard earlier was huge.

Bogus record. OT pretty much makes you have to divide the all-time list into pre-OT, 5 minute only OT, and Post-Shootout OT. xcoffeex

Flyers unbeaten streak trumps this by a ton.

25-0-10, now there's a record that has lasted a long time.

Wasn't it the Minnesota "No-Stars" that finally ended that streak?
