"NEW YORK (AP)—Alex Rodriguez admitted Monday that he used performance-enhancing drugs from 2001-03, saying he did so because of the pressures of being baseball’s highest-paid player.

“When I arrived in Texas in 2001, I felt an enormous amount of pressure. I felt like I had all the weight of the world on top of me and I needed to perform, and perform at a high level every day,” the New York Yankees star said in an interview with ESPN that was broadcast Monday shortly after it was recorded."

I guess you have to give him credit for learning from McGwire, Bonds, and Clemens but some of his reasoning makes his apology hollow. Saying that he wan't honest in the 2004 interview because he wasn't honest with himself is bogus. He figured he'd get away with it just like McGwire, Bonds, and Clemens thought they would. Also, if you were good enough to earn a $252M contract without PEDs, what do you have left to prove?

This won't be brushed under the rug anytime soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if A-Rod becomes the poster child for HOF voters and baseball fans of MLB coming clean after the steroids era. One thing's for sure, he damn well better be squeaky clean the rest of his career in regards to PEDs or he'll join Clemens and Bonds in purgatory.

I wonder if Schilling is enjoying his crow? I used to like the guy as a phils fan, but he kind of blows... I hope they test the blood on his sock from the world series and find steroids in it.

Article from 2005 after Canseco published "Juiced"

"He (Canseco)admitted to being a cheater. His whole career was a sham," Schilling said. "It makes me appreciate the fact that Alex Rodriguez is more of a genetic freak than we ever thought because he's truly the only 40-40 guy to ever play the game."

Just another MLB player who should have kept his mouth shut.... Right Bonds? Clemens? Palmeiro?

Steroids came out in the 1930's. Gee I wonder if any MLB players took steroids before what the baseball pursists label "the steroid era"?

"I told ya'll about everybody doing roids in MLB
and everybody I have talked about has been caught or admitted I was right.
Barry Bonds was not one of the people I named."

Looking back when this first started, Canseco looked like a burned out jerk, searching for a book deal.
Now the truth is, HE WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WAS TELLING THE TRUTH when this all came out cause everybody in his book has got swept up with egg all over their face.

Not to mention all the uppers and other drugs that could be considered performance enhancers... Heck, Meth used to be legal and taken by people trying to get the edge at work or truck drivers trying to stay up all night during the 40's and 50's. Drugs/enhancements are always a few steps ahead of the testing curve.

A-Rod, Palmeiro, Sosa...probably Gonzalez..

All those 'roids and the Rangers still couldn't win? That's what's really sad about this.

It's also funny how Kevin Kennedy was defending Clemens on his XM show...did he ever manage that whole crew at one point?

Fessing up was the smartest thing A-Rod could do. Look at the public perception of the guys who have admitted their steroid use compared to guys that have tried to lie about it.

I think lying about doing steroids says more about your character than doing steroids.

Funny story, I was hanging out with some of my friends who are college baseball players one time and the question was brought up: "If you knew it would get you to the big leagues, would you do steroids?" Every last one of them said yes.

I just heard an interview on the radio saying that he truly believes that it was Cynthia Rodrigeuz who leaked A-Rods name to the press.

Steriods didn't come out in the 30s.xlolx Try the 1950s (Soviets, 1954 World Weightlifting Championships in Vienna, Austria). The earliest they would have been used in professional sports would be the 60s, more likely the 70s.
