I appreciate the efforts, but I really doubt MSU's class is much better than UNI's.

Fabian Brown was a 3 Star Rivals Recruit out of HS....now Rivals has 0?....but scout says 3?

Every year UNI gets better athletes out of STL/KC than MSU does.....

Also, slapping JUCO linemen into the system may work with 1 kid....I think TA is desperate putting together a JUCO line.

Don't think anyone said that? But thanks for your unecessarily insulting input.. Right now I'd probably agree that UNI is #1, but MSU could easily be #2....

Who else had good classes?

FargoBison
February 6th, 2009, 01:10 AM
I think UNI, NDSU, and MSU all had very good classes.

SIU, YSU, WIU brought in a few great recruits but I'm not sure that they have the depth that the classes NDSU/UNI/MSU have.

SDSU was solid but small since they didn't have a lot of scholarship money to go around.

Indiana State did well considering where they are, another solid step forward for the trees.

Not sure about Ill St. I know a few Bison fans coveted the reciever they got from Wisconsin.

Yeah, it's hard to guage these rankings...

That said, "Wooden (QB) – s1 , r0" may end up being our best... 6'3" QB, 2nd team all-state in Florida.

I don't know anything about the rest of the class, but this young man is HUGE.

6-3, 315 and played in a high-powered offense where speed is emphasized.

Rivals, in general, does not not crap about the FCS. If someone that was previously 3 or 4 stars sings with the low level FBS schools or an FCS schools they lose all of their stars because if they were good they wouldn't go to that level.

I know this happens for a fact. I work for rivals, they don't know jack about the FCS. Individual state sites, like iowapreps.com, minnesotapreps.com, etc... know how good the kids at the FCS level really are because they covered them, but the rivals recruiting database doesn't know crap.

Sinkfield (RB) s1 , X

may be our best pickup.

Between Sinkfield, BJ Ray and Ian Moore....I think we got some good athletes.

When we think of last year and Raymond Simmons.....Jaz Granderson was rated right behind him....we just got him a year late.

Another interesting thought....our biggest impact freshman last year was Herring and he couldn't be found on Rivals or Scout....

You guys got one hell of a player in BJ Ray... kind of ticks all us MSU people out, but you guys have a pipeline to Wayneville right now and that's a good spot to be at.

I don't know anything about the rest of the class, but this young man is HUGE.

6-3, 315 and played in a high-powered offense where speed is emphasized.

yes hen, good pick-up from Colerain. Here is a rundown of YSU's recruits

*Theo Barnes DL 6-3 240 Akron, Ohio Archbishop Hoban
-undersized, but quick, played basketball and wrestling as well. I see him moving outside to match his speed/size.

*Jelani Berassa WR 6-3 180 Miami, Fla. Miami Killian
-Could be a real "sleeper". Height is real, was a forward on the basketball team. 6A school in a power conference. Played the best competition in the state.

*Jamaine Cook TB 5-9 195 Cleveland, Ohio Midpark
-Last minute pick-up. All-Ohio DI. 1st team all conference 2years running. Over 2000 all purpose yards last season (1500 rushing). I suspect he will see a great deal of special teams work early.

Sylvestry Gibbs LB 6-0 190 Austintown, Ohio Austintown Fitch
-Local product in the most powerful DI school in Ytown. Was a quality RB (all state), but I suspect he will be converted to an LB, as he played "ironman". Federal League is the top teams in the state, so he has played good competition

Fred Herdman DL 6-4 250 Scottsdale, Ariz. Pinnacle
-Another late pick that Heacock himself went after. 5A program, three-year starter at offensive guard and defensive tackle. All region 3-years. Made the state finals in wrestling, finishing 7th. Team's "Mr. Hustle" award all 4 years. Small, but there seems to be something about him.

Kurt Hess QB 6-3 220 Dayton, Ohio Chaminade-Julienne
-Interesting pick-up. Pro-style QB, from the top program in the Dayton area. Was supposed to go to Lousiville. Then chose YSU over Ohio U. 2 or 2.5 stars everywhere. He has a cannon and reads exceptionally well for a prep player. He will be big ...bust or star.

Taylor Hill^ DE 6-2 205 Youngstown, Ohio Cardinal Mooney (Michigan)
-HUGE transfer. Dressed as a frosh last year for Meatchicken. Part of a superstar Mooney class that was in the state title game all-four years. They may have won it all 4 times, I am not sure. Please do not be a "head-case".

Gannon Hulea ATH 6-2 200 Poland, Ohio Poland
-What I like to see. A local QB, with enough talent to make it as an athlete. Maybe he will not make it at QB, but he wants to play. Quality high-school, so academics will not be an issue. His team made the state semi's twice & coached by former Penguin QB Mark Brungard. Brungard has two national championship rings, so I expect this kid knows what Penguin football is all about.

Nick Liste PK/P 5-11 180 Niles, Ohio Niles McKinley
-All indications are that this kid is the one. He attended YSU kicking camp all 4 years of prep-ball. The camps were instructed by Rams kicker Jeff Wilkens and former Eagles kicker Paul MacFadden (both former Penguins), and he continues to work with Wilkens. McFadden is a YSU employee, so he is restricted. Liste is first-team all state, and had offers. Last year, 86% of his kick-offs were touchbacks, and he averaged 45.4 yards per punt, as he was also the team's punter. Nice grab, and local

Torrian Pace TB 5-10 220 Chantilly, Va. Chantilly
-Here is your $$ recruit. AAA offensive player of the year for the state of VA. First team all state, region, district and conference. East coast region top-50 player. 2 & 2.5 stars. Rushed for over 100 yards in 12 of 13 games last year. 3 of them over 300-yards and 6 of them over 200-yards. Rushed for 827 yards in his final-3 play-off games. 4,578 career HS yards. The again, that is VA and not Ohio, he seems a bit slow. This guy will be like Hess ...big or bust.

Conner Seeman TE 6-4 250 Copley, Ohio Copley
-If he can catch, he will be special. State qualifier in Shot-put, 110 yarder, and 300 hurdles. Such an unusually diverse combination of track specialties. Clearly strength, speed and agility are not an issue. Height "ain't" bad either.

Carson Sharbaugh TE 6-5 230 New Wilmington, Pa. New Wilmington
-Stud player. Will represent PA in the BIG-33 in June as a LB, but will move to offense for the guins. They say he can catch, block and height is legitimate.

Kyle Stadelmyer LB 6-2 210 Girard, Ohio Girard
-First-team All-Ohio at DB and all-conference and district at RB. Local product coach is Mike Cochran, former QB for the Penguins with a national championship ring, and a runner-up ring. Kyle should know football in the "ice castle".

Rob Stupar FB 6-0 235 State College, Pa. State College
-Another late signer. Will represent PA in the big-33 in June as a DL, but will move to offense for coach Heacock. Rob's uncles are Ron, Doug and Jeff Hostetler. You Penn State fans also know his father Steve. Rob averaged 7.6 a carry last year.

Averick Walker^ CB 5-10 180 Lithonia, Ga. Redan (Fork Union)
-Was a QB in high school and corner at Fork Union. YSU has had great success with Fork Union prep players.

Brandon White OL 6-5 310 Cincinnati, Ohio Colerain
-As mentioned, big find in many ways. All-Ohio Division I selection...first-team
Greater Miami Conference honoree...named to the All-Tristate (Ohio, Indiana, KY) first team...
first-team Southwest All-District Division I. Was also offered scholarships for wrestling. He was all-state with a 29-4 record as a junior. I love those guys that can use their hands.

Just shut the heck up, UNI fans, no one is trying to de-throne you, holy crap.

Seriously though, see it from our perspective. Every single year, we have to hear about how Missouri State, Illinois State, and Youngstown State have these amazing recruiting classes. Apparently we are supposed to lie to you guys and inflate your expectations with athletes you have never seen play before.

We are just pointing out that UNI NEVER has the top recruiting class in the Valley. It's meant to show you guys that these lists mean NOTHING.

He must be all around amazing if you know about him, most of the time people have never heard about UNI's recruits.

He was recruited by both schools, Minnesota seems to be a major battleground for both NDSU and UNI when it comes to recruits.
