Shouting into the wind (again), I say "how true." And they do nothing to build what they have in this area. There are just so many pieces beyond one-on-one rivalries here that could be exploited:

Three Roman Catholic institutions. Tell me that something couldn't be done with that.

The Siamese quadruplets: Bucknell, Colgate, Lafayette and Lehigh. You really have to hang your hat on minutia to see much difference within this group. Again, tell me that something couldn't be done here.

The list goes on.

Pace is slowing down, but there is one more Lehigh name that popped up:

Also, nice blurb on Colgate's Omar Auais, who I had already listed:

Colgate has been swarming Florida for recruits... I'm not the only one to have noticed that.

"Pedretty, on the other hand, didn't know until recently where he would attend college, but after making a trip to Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., last weekend and coming back with a scholarship offer, he decided to sign with the Crusaders...Pedretty also strongly considered Lafayette and Georgetown, as well as a number of Patriot League and Ivy League schools. But the financial package Holy Cross offered the 6-foot-4, 255-pound lineman was too good to resist."

Did a quick pre-Carney search on LFN's list of PL recruits. Not bad really but I wonder , given economic turndown and PL's lack of movement to define a comprehensive schollie policy for all sports, whether it will be enuf to at least keep PL at the same level as last couple .of yrs. Given economic situation $ may be scarcer and pool of kids we can recruit even with new AI will shrink. Will that lead to PL being even less competitive on National and Ivy levels?

Sadly,:( the answer is "yes" we will slip further unless the knuckle heads figure it out and we go to scholarships.

They have figured it out and it's more and more likely they're not going in that direction. It's like the last scene in the 1980's film "No Way Out". When Kevin Costner storms out of the safe house, the spy looks up and remarks "Let him go, he will return. Where else does he have to go?"

There really is no place these schools have to go. Oh, Fordham fans may talk about the CAA or Big South, but Fordham moves at a glacial pace and Fordham is not in their plans to begin with. And no PL president is going to pick up and move his/her school's entire athletic identity on account of football.

That last part would resonate much better if we were all sports members of the PL. We are not even close to having our athletic identity wrapped up in PL football.

A move on Fordham's part may not be imminent and may possible NOT happen but there's no way it's as much of a longshot as you describe there.

Here are 3 pretty high profile recruits for Holy Cross. 2 are RB's and the other is a QB. All three highlights are very impressive, especially the Reno kids.

Colin Reno (RB from Scarsdale, NY, but did a PG year at Choate. Apparently, he has 4.39 speed; not sure how true that is though. But, the kid can certainly fly): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMcGMechmoQ

Anthony Blake (RB all the way from Oregon. Seems like more of a power back when compared to Reno, but he certainly has some speed as well): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nzcSr8ro14

Grant Enders (QB from Maryland. Real strong arm; often makes several very long throws across his body and while on the run. Also, he has some pretty nifty moves and some speed for a QB): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53K8GeutHU4

The Crusaders really seem to be picking up some momentum. Between the last two years and what appears to be a very good recruiting class the Cross should be in contention for PL titles over the next few years.

More are trickling in - slower now, but they are still coming in. I got a heads-up on 3 Holy Cross commits but I can't for the life of me get independent confirmation:

Jake Bauder Hopewell, PA DB/FB
Kyle Toulouse Yorktown, VA WR / DB
Schuyler Waterhouse Bridgeton, MA DT/OG

Waterhouse is originally from Arizona but played a year at Bridgeton Academy and played against the Holy Cross JV team, where he obviously caught the eye of Gilmore. Looks like a great get, IMO - but I don't have independent confirmation.

Holy Cross' recruiting class, IMO, is starting to get a bit scary from the perspective of a Lehigh fan.

Here's a link from my hometown rag about him.

Interest quote in the article for the Hoya's

“They told me they were real interested and they think that I can make a big impact,” Koslop said. “The thing that sold me was the Georgetown coach said ‘It’s not a four-year plan, it’s a 40-year plan.’ I figured if I’m going to go, why not go to the best school? I personally think it’s the best school out of that group.”

Good to see Georgetown is on a 40 year plan to revive the FB program xlolx

(Also I understand the quote means success after graduation and the G-town degree will stay with you for life etc. but as it appears in the artcile it can easily be taken wrong)

Fordham's class of 23 is now posted on the Fordham Athletics website. I'm looking forward to seeing how many Patsy points they receive.

Two more Bucknell names:

1. RB Jeremiah Young (Steelton-Highspire HS PA), 5'10" 190 lb. PA's all-time leading rusher.
If nothing else, he will help the BU Carney ratings, being a 2-star player.

2. RB/DB Terrance Fitzsimmons (Haverford School PA) 6'1" 180 lb.

Interesting info in that Lehigh's recruit Zach Burket (sp?) was described as the 4th leading rusher all-time in US, ergo, #1 in PA...Both players come from single A programs, so not sure what the disconnect is on the stats?xconfusedx

Barket was the 4th all time leading rusher nationally for a single season, and had more rushing yards than any other high school back this year.

The Bucknell kid has the all time career rushing record in PA.

Barket had the best single season, but the Bucknell kid had more for the career.

Seems like a pretty good group overall.

Seems like a pretty good group overall.

Very geographically diverse group. Some tall thin linemen that will need to fill out a bit, and a big QB. Not a whole lot of info on each player however.

Barket had 4187 yards in 2008 - as mentioned a state record for a season. He also had 8325 for his career.

Young had 9027 yards for his career. He had 3444 as a junior but "only" 2812 as a senior due to several injuries. He sat one full game and parts of a few others this year due to a sprained ankle or he might have put the state record close to 9500 yards.

Got it.xthumbsupxWill be interesting down the road to see how these two stars from small programs do against each other and whether a lot of other schools missed the boat with them.

It is a big jump from A hs football to DivI football, but both kids dominated their level and A football in Pa is very tough . they will have to adjust to not being the fastest kids on the field .

I just discovered the Fordham recruiting class announcement. Having a full plate week, but will try to get to it later today. It will be interesting to see if our Fordham's claims of a recruiting disadvantage are reflected here.

Having a full plate week

is this some sort of variation of the blue plate special at the old curmudgeons home?

Philadelphia Daily News has Jamel Haggins a linebacker from Ben Franklin going to Lehigh. There's also a blurb at the bottom that Scott Kajmo, a lineman from Archbishop Wood has committed to Lafayette.

I didn't see these names posted on the thread. Interesting the kid's quotes keep referring to being offered a scholarship:

We see that term being misused all the time. Mostly by parents who want others to think that their cherub earned a scholarship and not based on the fact they qualified for financial aid. I've seen the same misuse of terms with Ivy, PFL and D-III recruits.

Money is money, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, certainly the kids and there HS coaches love Div I scholarship in the newspaper.

I began to notice this phenomenon when LBKid started being recruited by the Ivys and PL schools. I would hear that a kid had received a football scholarship from Brown (for example). I used to quickly respond that this was incorrect, but I realized that the parents did not want to reveal that Brown had determined that they "needed" financial aid. I guess pride takes many forms.

Hofstra an unusual situation. Nice stadium and pretty good teams historically but no campus or local support.Times I've gone at most a few thousand at the game
