Believe it or not, but my Wildcats are in the same conference as the Chapel Hill Tar Heels in Women's Gymnastics. I'm in Durham for the weekend for afternoon basketball games and see that there is a gymnastics meet against UNC-CH. I've never seen a collegiate gymnastics meet and I figure how often does UNH and UNC-CH ever compete in a sport. So, I spend my evening at Lundholm Gymnasium watching this meet.

Now, for all my friends in Boone, North Carolina, I'm happy to report that my Wildcats had a terrific comeback in their last of four events to win this meet. I can't say that the thought of "New Hampshire Wildcats beat North Carolina Tar Holes" (did I get that correct? ;) :p :p) has ever crept into my conscientiousness! xrotatehx

What really surprised me was how many people attended the meet! xeekx And they charged admission too!! Just what the doctor ordered after a horrific performance by our hoop team.

Just for the heck of it, I go over to the NC web site. This was their headlines for the meet:

Tar Heels Achieve Highest Team Road Score Since 2005

The UNC gymnastics team scores 195.950 in first dual meet of the season.

How about you mention that you lost? xconfusedx :p :p xlolx xlolx xlolx xlolx Is this an example of why many folks on AGS call them the Tar Holes?

b-i-n-g-o. The Tar Hicks/Holes exude that kind of snobbyness in just about everything they do.

How many websites would lead with
"Our Team Loses Big Game"? Positive spin is used by everyone.

Final Results (http://epic.unh.edu/unhwildcats/media/gymnastics/htmls2009/20090131.htm) Taking it on the road again, the UNC gymnastics team came off a two week hiatus from competition to earn an impressive 195.950 team score; the highest since the 2005 EAGL Championships. The Tar Heels faced EAGL opponent the University of New Hampshire in Lundholm Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 31. Head coach Derek Galvin expressed his delight with the team's performance and energy in their first dual meet of the season. (more) (http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/w-gym/recaps/020109aab.html)

I don't know, my school's web site always seems to have some reference to the results of the match in the title. That seems like pretty standard reporting. And they definitely mention it in the text of the article. Did you read their article? It never mentioned the result of the meet! xeekx Only after all the text when they start listing results are the team point tallies listed. I'm not trying to make a big deal out of this, just found it quite odd.

And it's only gymnastics, do that many people care that they lost to New Hampshire? Now if it was football that would raise a few eyebrows. And if it was basketball, that would be cataclysmic and cause for the ultimate embarrassment. xlolx xlolx xlolx

Did you like how they mentioned UNHs score was one of the highest in UNH's history, as if they were writing it off as nothing more then a fluke.

Towson has a strong gymnastics team. Back in the day, there was no better way to lose a hangover than a Double Gulp of Coke and a front row seat by the balance beam on a Saturday morning.

Travis, glad you found a photograph because all I found were locked down within the UNHPhotos site.

Andy, Towson used to participate in this same league, the EAGL, until a couple of seasons ago. I think they are in the ECAC these days. IIRC, it reduced expenses with lessened travel and maybe scholarships. Pretty sure gymnastics are a pretty significant part of the Title IX offset for football at UNH. Towson is in a Governor's Cup meet this Saturday at NC State with UNC-CH, Maryland and UNH. Not sure why UNH is participating since the cup is a NC-MD challenge. xconfusedx xconfusedx xconfusedx

I'm just going to provide a link to the UNC site and you can look at their team. There is a link for the media guide that has pictures. OK, I'll post one.

UNH-CH Gymnastics (http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/w-gym/unc-w-gym-body.html)

BTW, the lights in the picture posted of the UNH team are for our women's field hockey and lacrosse teams. It's Memorial Field, the football field before Cowell Stadium, which now has an artificial surface. Almost all the snow has been removed as lacrosse starts on Feb. 22nd! xeekx The building in the rear is our Ice Hockey facility, the Whittemore Center. It opened in 1995 and it's pretty clear where priority during the 90's was directed. It has an Olympic sized rink and is affectionately known as Lake Whitt! Basketball can be played there, but the beancounters decided after a few years that attendance didn't justify the cost of putting the floor down and then removing it for each game.

You think that's odd how about being a member of the Norpac Conference, as ASU, Davidson, Longwood, & Radford are, and competing against Cal and Stanford in field hockey. We hosted the conference tournament a few years back and I stumbled upon the Stanford squad in front of the field housexconfusedx
