Mark Whipple has been named the new offensive coordinator at the University of Miami. A veteran of 27 seasons as a coach on both the collegiate and professional levels, Whipple inherits a unit that returns nine starters, an experienced young quarterback, one of the top running back tandems in the ACC, a talented group of receivers and an offensive line that returns three starters.

where were all those guys at last year? xlolx but seriously they have a lot of youth, could be worth it for the Noles to play them early.

Congrats to Whip and best of luck to him. Hopefully this will lead to a BCS head-coaching job for him before too long. The UMass team he took over in '98 had gone 2-9 the year before, so it would be exciting to see what he could do at the helm of even a sub-par BCS program. First things first at Miami, though. I'll definitely be keeping on eye on the 'Canes this year.

I'm with UMass922. Hopefully this is the missing piece his resume needs to make the jump to a I-A head coaching job.

I'm confident it will happen for him. Now that he has this job, I think it's only a matter of time.

Well, just root for the defense to be terrible . . . maybe they can lose a lot of 45-42 games, and everyone can be happy.

That's a good hire for Miami. Whipple will have that Miami passing game looking like it did back in the days when Miami used to churn out NFL QB's season after season.
It's just a matter of time before he gets an FBS HC job. My feeling is Randy Edsall will soon be moving on from UCONN and I could see Whipple getting that job. Really, there are plenty of possibilities for him.

I would thing the point of going to miami is to get either a high profile I-A job or to be O Coord at a NFL team next. If he has success at Miami... he will not be going to UConn. He could have gotten a job like UConn where he was at. I believe Philly was going to offer him their QB coach poss but he wanted to call plays.
