Yep -- a fourth approved postseason basketball tournament, this one set up by CollegeInsider.com.
More information: http://www.collegeinsider.com/tournament/
Now, we will have 65 in NCAA, 32 in NIT, 16 in CBI and 16 in CI.com make the postseason out of the 340ish teams that play NCAA Division I basketball.
BOSTON -- A new men's postseason basketball tournament has been scheduled in March by CollegeInsider.com for 16 teams not chosen for the NCAA and NIT tournaments.
It was announced Monday that the single-elimination tournament will be held at campus sites with teams chosen by a 14-member committee that includes nine former college head coaches.
To be eligible, teams must have a winning record against Division I opponents. Priority will be given to schools whose conferences have fewer than half their teams in the NCAA and NIT. CollegeInsider.com said the NCAA and National Association of Basketball Coaches have been consulted and are aware of the tournament guidelines.

Wow, the amount of teams allowed to play postseason basketball is starting to resemble the amount of teams that play in bowl games in 1a football
2 tourneys is all that is need - NCAA & NIT.

If priority is going to be given to conferences with less than half their teams in the NCAA or NIT tournaments they're going to be primarily dealing with second and third tier conferences with second and third tier facilities. I'm not sure how this tourney is gonna make any money with that kind of strategy.

The host schools are probably going to have to throw in some kind of bid fee. That's what the CBI did. It will be up to the schools to recoup the money.

I like the idea of giving smaller conferences a chance to play. Instead of having teams that placed 11th or 12th in a BCS conference, a 2nd or 3rd place team from a mid-major conference can get some extra games.

Pretty much everything other than the field of 65 is a joke.

Since the NCAA tourney crowns the champ I don't see a big deal. Gives the one bid leagues something to play for. You see teams have great seasons lose early in conference tourneys and don't get a chance to play any more ball.

813 -- this one may not be as "open" for the SWAC.
Problem the SWAC is going to face is that it's going to take a team with more Div I wins than losses to get in.
Your top team will go to NCAA via tourney or NIT via winning title. Last year, you had two teams that would've fit the bill -- the league champ (Ala St, 20-11) and Valley (17-16).
Will a tournament like this encourage the SWAC to play a few more home-and-homes?

Please READ my post again, where did I say or imply SWAC? xconfusedx
I know SWAC ball is Garbage with a capital G. I was speaking of other better leagues. Am I not allowed to speak on things outside of the SWAC? xconfusedx I don't have the SWAC focus that you do.
Southern had a better schedule this season but they have a horrible team, home and homes don't mean a thing if you can't win games.

65 In the NCAA.
So if you win this tourney you are the 114th best team in the nation?

Yup...and first-place teams that lose in their conference tourneys are already guaranteed a spot in the NIT...who the hell is going to this one then.

I would assume 2nd place teams from mid-major conferences. Brown went 19-9 last year, 11-3 in the Ivy (2nd place), and went to the CBI, which was a good reward for a good season.

CBI I see more of a market for because the NIT cut from 40 to 32...this one is a huge stretch IMO.

The winner of this and the CBI argue over being #98.
