Summit looking at USD-Snubs UND

The Summit is contacting South Dakota for possible membership into the Summit League hooking up with former NCC teams NDSU and SDSU the only thing missing--UND the reason-- their nickname!! Surprise!! Surprise! They are snubbing UND until their nickname issue is put to rest well if they read their news the Sioux have resolved the nickname issue with the NCAA and is currently seeking 2 tribal approval by 2010 or the name goes away (as issued by the court and the NCAA). So as far as i am concerned the Summit is not giving the Sioux any chance at joining at least until Dec. 1st 2010 (the day after the deadline). All because of a nickname not because of their bball history or academics but because of a name, but i am sure if the Bison were to play Florida State the Summit has no problem with that. Minnesota still has a ban on playing UND in all sports except for hockey Wisconsin and Iowa lifted their ban when the trial was over. So i say don't rush we have until 2012 to be playoff eligible and their are a lot of conferences out there. Maybe the Big Sky will look us up. As for USD good luck if you join.

Personally i think all that name stuff is stupid... so you are called the sioux.. who cares! sounds like a great name to me!... i guess i am "incensitive"

The thing is we have been the sioux over 70 years its not like we just picked the name last year. We were fine until the stupid NCAA came out with that list and when the big money schools went off that list things got better for the NCAA (like not losing money) but to non-big money schools like UND they could care less. And they don't want to pay to remove all the logos off of buildings and pay for new uniforms. You are not incensitive you are part of the majority of people in this country who like Indian nicknames (including a lot of N.A.) its only a few that seem to always get their way.

Hopefully this remedies itself soon. The 4 Dakota schools should be together and it would certainly help the summit travel costs.

Would have been great to join the Summit, but their loss is your gain. Hopefully the Big Sky or Missouri Valley will come calling.
