It's of course biased, but it gives some insight to why Colgate will be in the thick of it again. Some solid returnees, some good signees and Colgate will look to continue its prescence near the top of of the PL.

Tough task replacing all your starting skill people. Your situation at QB looks particularly challenging. Hope that defense is as good as it looks because it appears you may have trouble scoring points.

13, I was just going to say the same thing as Tribe. I didn't realize you lost so much on the offensive side. The QB's are pretty small, huh (5'9 & 5'10)? I know that sometimes these guys are great sparkplugs for the o, but Saraceno has bounced around from D to O and even left school for a little while. Is he definitely the leader for the team?
From other posts I think the consensus is that you guys have a great replacement in LaMonica - is that true? How would you compare him to Jamaal? And losing all 3 WR's has gotta hurt, no?
The D looks very tough, though. Nepa seems like a stud.
What's interesting is that you guys are pretty much the mirror image of us in terms of what you're bringing back and what you lost. We got crushed on D but return most of our offense, particulary at the skill positions.
It's gonna be interesting, but I feel much better about putting us ahead of you guys in my pre-season rankings now ... even though I think all of us can be in the mix. All bs aside, I think the question marks are just a little bigger for a team that lost so many skill position guys. Just my .02.

One more thing that I think gives us the pre-season edge (that, and a nickel will get me what nowadays?) - special teams. If you agree that we're fairly closely matched, then our clear advantage in the kicking game should be a tiebreaker. First team PL kicker (only a soph.) and 2nd team punter, both return. I believe you guys are looking to replace your kicker.
To be fair, your coaching experience gives you guys the edge right now, though, so that's a huge influence on it as well. I love Foley and think he'll develop into a heckuva coach, but he's only in year 2 right now and there isn't anything from year 1 that would make you put him in the same class as Bid.

QB is the big fat question mark of the group. Saraceno is not the man IMO. Sloan may be... but don't be suprised if a true frosh sees some time too. We brought in several that supposedly have talent.
I'm less concerend at WR than I was before. They've moved Kenny Parker to WR from TB and I thought he would challenge for TB - so they're getting both on the field at the same time. Our frosh saw some time last year and are fast, so a name or two might emerge as a star.
LaMonica is a completely different runner than Jamaal, but still darn good. He should be able to rush for 1000 yards this year, especially with the O line we have coming back.
Special teams isn't as bad as it seems - punter and kickoff specialist return. He can also kick FGs but not as good as the guy who left. We have an incoming frosh who might play right away.
My opinion on why Colgate would have the preseason edge is our favourable home schedule. We play Fordham, Bucknell and Lehigh at home. G'Town and HC on the road can be tough but very winnable. Lafayette should be the away game that decides our season... but we've had Lafayette's number for almost a decade. It doesn't mean jack to this year's game, but I still like to think we've got their number.

A few cavities need filling, maybe an extraction or two, but no need for braces at this time. ;)

Hey, where did Colgate get their name from anyway? I've always been too lazy to look it up myself. (The Colgate name, not the Red Raiders (or is it just Raiders now??))

Back in the day, it used to be called Madison University, after Madison County, NY, where we're located. One of the big benefactors was James Colgate who owned the company that today is, you guessed it, Colgate-Palmolive (although, it was more famous for soap than toothpaste at the time). In his will, Colgate left a whole bunch of money to the school, as well as the use of his name. Thus, Colgate University.
As for the Raiders nickname, the "Red" was dropped in 2001 because it wasn't PC. Apparently though, the AD has been leading a charge to revive the Raider nickname by creating a mascot of some sort. It looks like it's leading to a few changes in the Athletics logo, so we'll see what this does to the teams' overall look.

Actually grasshopper, before it was Madison University it was originally founded in 1819 as The Baptist Education Society of the State of New York. It then became the Hamilton Literary and Theological Institution when the seminary merged with the Hamilton School. After it went secular (1839) it became Madison University in 1846 and then after 70 years (and some big checks) of Colgate family involvement it changed to Colgate in 1890. And we've been fighting cavities ever since...
To further confusing things, the seminary broke off Colgate in 1928 and merged with the Rochester Theological Seminary to become the Colgate Rochester Divinity School. There were those at the time that wanted to move the whole school to Rochester!

Yea, I heard some rumblings about a new mascot too. Can't say I'm too excited about it. I have a feeling it's going to be dumb - some muscular Raider dude/dudette just isn't going to cut it.
