No way you sneak in Tampa and don't connect with AGSers here. xnonox Shame on you. xlolx

I don't know who to pick, if Shon Greene has a good game Hawkeyes win. If Garcia can control the offense the Cocks win. I'll pick the Hawkeyes, for redemption against the SEC in the Outback Bowl.

Outback Bowl 2009: The Battle of the Absent Offenses

I say Iowa simply because they have Shonn Greene, which is the only real offensive weapon for either team.

My initial reaction is to go with 'the ol' ball coach', but Spurrier seems to have come up small recently, and I think Ferentz has the Hawks on the rise. Hawkeyes by 3.

South Carolina, even at 7-5, already has an incoming recruiting class that most have already labeled in the collective top 10. An 8th win would lock up a few more studs and the 2009 class would be as good, if not better, than the much heralded 2007 class which hasn't broken out yet due to this year's seniors being the last of Holtz's kids. Good times are ahead in Columbia, SC, especially if they win this game and go to 8-5.

Some Carolina folks bemoaned the end of the season, but in all 4 years in Columbia under SOS, they have been bowl eligible. Not even Holtz accomplished that in his 6 years there. I keep telling the Gamecock faithful that it's baby steps.

Very tough call but I'll go with Iowa. Their four losses have been by a total of 12 points with the biggest loss being by 5 and they're rated slightly higher than South Carolina is in the power rating system that has the best performance in picking game outcomes this year (http://www.knology.net/~jashburn/football/archive/CF_2008_Hybrid.html ).

South Carolina's players have NO desire to win. Absolutely pathetic!!!

Steve Spurrier should either resign or be fired and the entire administration in Columbia should be ashamed of themselves.

They don't want to keep the football. Garcia really sloppy early. Seems like they would have rather stayed at home. Don't see much motivation.

Because the Outback Bowl wanted the Spurrier/Garcia return to Tampa story to sell tickets.

Iowa always travels well for the Outback Bowl, that's why they get the invite.

I picked my daughter up from the airport yesterday evening and the whole place was full of people in Iowa gear returning home. Congrats on a very decisive win!

How did you enjoy the Tampa area?

I remember when they played Florida a couple of years ago. We spent the 4th quarter yelling "Steelers, Steelers" at them. Good folks, really enjoyed their band.

Yeah, its actually pretty unfair. There are several instances throughout the years of Iowa getting a better bowl game than some Big 10 teams ahead of them just because Iowa fans travel so well, which brings them the money.

And while its impressive that the Hawkeyes bring tens and tens of thoursands of fans, remember that it is freezing up here in Iowa and this is many peoples family vacations.

Conversely, Iowa has gotten jobbed out of better bowls because we aren't a big TV market.

Hey 813Jaj, funny about the Steelers thing. That was deliberate. When Hayden Fry came to Iowa back in 1979, he asked for new unis based on the Steelers uniforms so people would start thinking of the Hawkeyes as winners.

Yeah, good point. I wonder why that is though, it's not like Cedar Rapids/Iowa City is a tiny market. The area is over 400,000. It's no Miami, Los Angeles, or Seattle but its no Norman, Lawrence, or College Station. Plus, the entire state essentially watches the bowl games, since Iowa State never goes, haha.

Big Al
January 2nd, 2009, 03:23 PM
Our market is much smaller compared to the other teams in the Big 11. Even Minnesota has a larger market, although their general terribleness seems to make them a non-factor.

Meh. UNI probably won't win ('tis not impossible, just not likely), but they will have a better showing than YSU makes at Ohio State.

I agree. South Carolina, as much as I hate to say, didn't deserve the Outback Bowl. They should've been in Memphis playing ECU instead of Kentucky.

Should of stayed home with that piss poor showing.

Spurrier needs to resign.
