It's not clear if the game will remain as part of the Super Bowl calendar, but very interesting to see the Pro Bowl added to the schedule with the Super Bowl festivities...

Barring a schedule change, next season's Pro Bowl will take place Jan. 31, 2010, with the Super Bowl that year on Feb. 7. The league's plan is for players on the AFC and NFC championship squads not to take part in the Pro Bowl.

Miami was awarded the 2010 Super Bowl three years ago, a record 10th time the game will come to the Dolphins' home city. The notion of adding the Pro Bowl to the lineup in South Florida was first discussed several months ago. It's not clear when the final decision was made to move the game.

generally a large amount of the pro bowlers in any given year are from the teams that end up in the SB, those players will be barred from playing the game... once again the fans are screwed.

Seriously, who watches the Pro Bowl??

The last time I watched a Pro Bowl game was to see if Ray Guy could hit the
scoreboard at the Super Dome. How long ago was that?

You got that right. This one 'all star game' that could be dropped and hardly anyone would notice.

Why watch it if the best players from the two best teams aren't even going to play? This is retarded.
Keep it in Hawaii as a reward to the players and give the Hawaiian's something to go to call their own. No one is going to watch or care anyway.

I don't watch or care as it is. That's why the other sports have their "all-star" game during the regular season. I don't think football needs an "all-star" game. Nothing is bigger than the SB, it should be the last game.

I was going to say it takes away from the fan interest in the Pro Bowl, but is there fan interest in the Pro Bowl xoopsx

Last year the Vikings had 9 Pro Bowlers, and no playoff. Lots of people riding AD's coat-tails.

Great idea actually. Normally the guys playing in the Super Bowl end up skipping the Pro Bowl anyway so that argument doesn't hold a lot of water. And I'm not all that worried that the "reward" these guys get by getting to go to Hawaii will be taken away - first of all, these guys are wealthy and could go to Hawaii if they want, and second of all, now they replace Hawaii with a trip to Miami Beach - real bummer I'm sure. Those luxury hotels in Miami just pale in comparison to the luxury hotels they get in Hawaii. And frankly, no one watches the Pro Bowl currently - any chance that the game could be watched by more than a handful of people is a good change - nothing much happens in that middle weekend before the Super Bowl anyway.

I agree, it can't hurt. The only thing I disagree with is that from a "reward" standpoint it's not always going to be in Miami. Nobody wants to take the family to Detroit in Feb. That would also impact some of the more entertaining Pro Bowl Week activities, like the sand flag football and position competitions.

I dont mind the move but the problem i see with it is when looking at cumulative stats for a player getting into the HOF the number of pro bowls a player has been to would be greatly reduced... if this was inacted many years ago... Tom Brady would have been kept out of 4 of them by default that doesnt seem right... IDK

I always thought that stat was for Pro Bowl selections, not necessarily Pro Bowl games played. I think that you still get credit if you're selected and don't play, but I'm not completely positive on that.

Well, if the stat is "selected to" instead of "played in", it would actually help more players, as you'd have to find alternates for the non-playing SB participants.

I dunno, I don't see why they need to move it from Hawaii.

ok that makes sense... the teams will be selected then alternates will be found for the super bowl teams at the last minute... which you are right would benefit more teams

I would probably be more apt to watch it. The problem with it being after the Super Bowl is that it's a big letdown. In the bye week, I think people are still pumped and in "football mode."

In the Twin Cities, most of the sports fans are at Twinsfest the week prior to the Super Bowl. Well at least 30-35 thousand of them.

Pro Bowl numbers are a bit bogus anyways. Way too much of a popularity game than anything else. Plenty of good players don't get into the Pro Bowl based on bad reputations. Probably one of the least informative data points when considering the HOF.
