The New York Jets have relieved coach Eric Mangini of his duties, ESPN and profootballtalk.com reported Monday. The team has a press conference scheduled for 10 a.m. ET.

The move comes a day after a 24-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins, which left the Jets out of the playoffs.

Mangini lasted three seasons with the Jets, making the playoffs in his first.

no doubt this is true... but i think that 38 year old man throwing the ball to the wrong colored jersey's has as much to do with it as anything...

do you think he will be back next year?

Favre is not a cold weather/December QB anymore, as evident from him performance the last 2 years.

Favre is washed up. He should hang 'em up before he tarnishes his reputation any further.xpeacex

Yeah, but I was shocked to see Marinelli fired. xlolx They need to start fresh, at least Millen is gone. They next people that need to be cleared out is the Ford family.

Marinelli and Crennel both fired too. Wouldnt mind seeing Romeo back at Foxboro as Def Coor.

You may be able to get Chuck Weiss back soon too. He's not exactly bringing the hardware to South Bend.

The Yale job is still open, if anyone of them are interested. :)

No surprise here....Mangini is just a bad gameday coach. Jets would have lost their final five games if an even worse coach (that will hopefully be fired in the next day or two, fingers crossed) didn't give them a game a few weeks back.

It's hard to argue with the success Favre had this year - a lot of Jets fans had them in the Super Bowl preseason, and he was certainly an improvement over Pennington's performance over the last couple of seasons. Chad's done pretty well this year, though....xsmiley_wix

Id like to see the Bears bring Marinelli in as a D Coordinator and fire Bob Babych

I'm waiting for the Chiefs to add to this list, and the two interims (Cable and Haslett) also today.

Word is that Jets want Favre back next year as long as he commits early. Could it be that he had a hand in the firing decision?

Could it be that he had a hand in the firing decision?

No. More likely that Woody Johnson doesn't know a thing about football and is almost nearly as bad an owner as Dan Synder.
