Next year the limit is 11 games, right?
Can anyone tell me when the next year is that FCS teams can play 12 games?

It's either 2012 and 2013 or 2013 and 2014, I know there are two back to back years ahead.

After 2008, the next three years in which 12-game scheduling will be allowed are 2013, 2014 and 2019 under the current rules for FCS institutions.

I think when (if?) they expand the playoffs to 20 teams they'll change this rule and make the limit 11 games.

The change to 20 playoff teams will occur in 2010, there is no 'if' about it. There has been no discussion of changing the 12 game seasons.

For what purpose tho? They (the NCAA) are already planning on moving the FCS title game date to the week of the BCS title game starting in 2010. The extra week required for the "opening round" games has already been factored in.
Opening Round - Thanksgiving weekend
First Round - First week of December
Quarterfinals - Second week of December
Semifinals - Third week of December
Championship game - First week of January

This was the last year.
Starting in 2010 there will be a maximum of 11 games allowed every year because of the fact that there will be 5 rounds of playoffs instead of only 4.

Says MplsBison? Or says the NCAA? Please provide your source as you have already given us countless reasons to take you for jest in the past (i.e SHSU not hosting NDSU in 2009, amongst them).

The whole reason for the opportunity for 12 games this year is because there was an "extra" Saturday in the "season" (however the football season is defined) because of how the calendar happened to fall. I'm not sure how often this situation occurs. But if the FCS is able to make the 20-team playoff work during the "normal" years with 11 games, then the same system would work in the "special" years (such as 2008) with 12 games.

You can play 12 games in a 12-week season, it's just that you will not get an off-week. There were many teams with 12-game schedules this past year because there were 13 weeks.
Assuming the first week of the season is the Saturday before labor day, the next time we will have a 13-week season is 2013.

12 games are allowed for FCS in years when there are 14 Saturdays between the start and end dates set by NCAA- the next 12 game seasons being 2013 & 2014. I'm not lending any credence to MB's post until he posts something credible to support his statement.

For the purpose of avoiding the possibility that a couple of teams will have to play 17 games?

doubtful that an opening round team plays 12 games and makes it all the way through.
