Mets deep in negotiations for Derek Lowe (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ap6wBuGFFz4I4h7OX2ZECFcb2Z14?slug=ge-lowemets122308&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)
The Mets and Lowe are deep in negotiations, according to a source, and while an offer has not yet been made, the 35-year-old sinkerballer is the Mets’ prime target.
The Red Sox have also shown interest in Lowe, but now with Teixeira going to the NYY, the Sox may go harder after Lowe or may turn their attention to free agent Brad Penny.

The Red Sox aren't going to give Lowe the kind of money he wants.

The Mutts don't need much more than that. They are solidifying their pitching staff which is what killed them the last two years down the stretch... looks like another tough year in the NL east.

I wouldnt be surprised if the Red Sox made a run at trying to trade for Adrian Gonzalez from San Diego or Prince Fielder from Milwaukee. They clearly need to make a move because two of their offensive threats are huge question marks.

Lowe is a big game pitcher. He's just what the Mets need if they are to contend down the stretch.

Exactly my point, solidifying their rotation and their bullpen seals what's been wrong with the team over the past two years. Blown saves and a shaky rotation has been their problem, their hitting has always been fine (though aging). They are not going to have the same problem of blowing 20-40 games this year which will put them in a dominating position in the NL east. They were in first at one point in September I do believe... now with their Bullpen and maybe Derek Lowe, Santana, and Maine... I don't see them losing that lead if they have it next season.

The Mets are an extremely old team. Signing Lowe only makes them older.

Right....Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Santana, Maine, Pelfrey, Church and Rodriguez are all 30 or under (if someone turned 31 I'm sorry, but you get the point). Only core guys over 30 are Delgado and Putz.

Ewww, yeah... Beltran is 31... sorry man, to old to play baseball. Guess the phils need to revoke Burrel, Ibanez, Moyer, Lidge, J.C. Romero, and Geoff Jenkins players cards too
