Wow. If Texiera averages 600 at bats be season, that is over $35,000 per at bat for eight years and over $131,000 per game.
To paraphrase Eddie Murphy - the guy don't ever have to worry about makin' ends meet - the ends will be meeting like a mother f-er.

Sucks for next year's free agents when the Yanks won't be in the bidding quite as much.

Did you really want them to spend more than 180 over 8 years on Tex. That's not smart. Guess the Yanks really wanted to make sure that they were not under $200 million next year.

Sportscenter said they had the Top 4.
They had $88M in payroll come off this year...and have not spent all that freed up money in getting CC, AJ and Teix.

Glad to see the Yankees are back to just buying out all the best players in baseball. I missed that and it has worked SO well for them recently xoopsx
The Yankees now officially have the 4 highest paid players in the game today: A-Rod, Jeter, CC and now Teixiera

Difference being that instead of paying for a 35-year old Sheffield, a 41 year-old Randy Johnson and a 36-year old Roger Clemens, the Yankees are getting a 28-year old Teixeira, a 32-year old Burnett and a 28-year old Sabathia...

On the plus side, I think this increases the Dodgers' chances of resigning Manny, who I think we really need back.

No doubt. When they couldn't close the deal last week on Tex, I knew the Sox were not gonna get him.
Yanks just waited until all the pretenders left the table, then swooped him up.

While he's good and all, is Texeria really worth A-Rod or Manny money? Me thinks the last 2-3 years of this contract are going to be hard to swallow.

He's not getting A-Rod money. A-Rod is getting what...$28M/yr? Teix is getting $22.5? That's almost 20% less than A-Rod.
And do you think an aging Manny (who will turn 37 this may) will give you better production at 37, 38, 39...than Teix will give you at 29, 30, 31?

Teixeira is a great defensive player, is by all accounts a good teammate, and puts up numbers. For the most part he has been durable too.
He is a notoriously slow starter and is known to hit 3 run homers in blowouts but flail away in late and close situations.
Having watched him in the Braves lineup for over 140 games I will say without reservation that he can't carry Chipper Jones' jock offensively or from a clutch/leadership standpoint. That is the difference between a star and a superstar.
He is a good addition to the Yanks though, because he balances their lineup (being a switch hitter) and is a great defensive player. He'll likely do well because he won't be the most scrutinized (how odd is that? $180mm and not in the biggest spotlight) and he'll get plenty of opportunities with RISP.
No way he's a $180mm talent though...

If I was a player for the Yanks, and seeing how generous Steinbrenner is, I would look to renegotiate my contract. Afterall, it is the Christmas season. I think it's time for Wang, Rivera,Cano,Damon, etc. to ask for their fair share of the pot. 4 players getting as much as the 21 other players really doesn't seem fair to me. Afterall, who would win more games, the 21 other players or 4 great players? I'd bet the 21 would win 100% more games than the 4 stars. The 4 stars would win a big ZERO.
George it's time to pay everyone alike or face discontent in the clubhouse.
It is going to be fun to see the turmoil in NY.

Great and all for the Yanks, but still doesn't even make them the favorites in their own division. Sabbathia is a nice get, even though he's never been good in the postseason, but they haven't done much else with the pitching, which has been their downfall for most of the past decade. Almost never a better story, though, of the Yanks spending tons of cash and not winning anything - looks to be another year we get to have that story come September or October.

I notice that Giambi may actually be a huge loss for NY. He hit 32 HRs in 53 fewer ABs than A-Rod. A-Rod had 35. Also, considering the loss of Abreu, the Yanks are losing 52 HRs and 196 RBI'S from these two. That could be a factor in next season, because I seriously doubt the Texeira and a replacement at DH will have comparable combines stats.
