I don't think giving up 24 points is that bad really for Montana's D, but Montana O was just manhandled tonight.

I do think Richmond was the better team. But I also think Montana's performance was disappointing in that they made some critical mistakes early to create a situation where they were pretty much out of the game by halftime. Mostly critical penalties. If I were a Montana fan I'd be very disappointed to see that kind of stuff happen in a championship game. You always hope that you minimize mistakes and make the plays you have a chance to make. Instead, Montana had all kinds of critical penalties, dropped passes, etc.

I'm just responding to colv who apparantly thinks that when JMU loses the TO battle big it's mental mistakes but when App. does the same it's because Richmond is just good.


The Richmond-ASU game didn't seem that close. JMU outgained Montana by a wide margin but had 4 really bad turnovers. Big difference between those two games.

You have to take into account all of the injuries that App. had. I realize that that is part of the game, but I don't see how you can't say App. wasn't nearly as close to 100% as JMU was without Landers. App. came in and played a game entirely different from what they have been playing all year. If App. had played with an immobilized AE throwing the ball 40 times a game they'd be lucky to be 4-4 in the SoCon. The rushing ability of AE has been integral to their offense in every game, even in the Wofford game when they had half a mile of passing.xpeacex

Just think if you add Hightower back to the team from this year. How did Richmond not win it last year. Oh yeah App played the second best game of their existance next to the Wofford game from this year.

It's interesting how often reporters try to press the issue with human interest stories. It's awfully contrived.

Reminds me of the whole "Armanti's dad is in jail" story during the Wofford game.

Are they afraid the game isn't interesting enough on its own?

That's not to say London's story isn't interesting. When you're walking onto the field after coaching your way to a national title, though, that's the most interesting thing in your life at that moment.

Montana fans have to be frustrated. B. Hauck has struggled in big games over the last few years. But take heart-- the Griz had a good year. Many, many teams (including one in Statesboro, Georgia) would have loved to be in your place.


Hauck generally gets out-coached in big games against nationallly ranked competition. Tonight was no exception. Montana is NOT a pass-first team. They need to establish the running game in order for their passing game to click. Yet, Bobby panicked in the first half down only 14-0, and totally abandoned the running game. I knew it was over at that point. Even Brock Huard mentioned a couple of times that Montana needed to be more balanced on offense to suceed.

I'm just responding to colv who apparantly thinks that when JMU loses the TO battle big it's mental mistakes but when App. does the same it's because Richmond is just good.



You have to take into account all of the injuries that App. had. I realize that that is part of the game, but I don't see how you can't say App. wasn't nearly as close to 100% as JMU was without Landers. App. came in and played a game entirely different from what they have been playing all year. If App. had played with an immobilized AE throwing the ball 40 times a game they'd be lucky to be 4-4 in the SoCon. The rushing ability of AE has been integral to their offense in every game, even in the Wofford game when they had half a mile of passing.xpeacex

Gotcha'. Seriously.

However, you are looking at the equation through Appy eyes. UD lost three starting O lineman and limped through the playoffs. WE could not run the ball against an ASU D that could not stop the run. Your DBs and LBs were able to cover while your lineman ate up our 240lb tackle and the rest fo the band aid line. UD also had their starting 2 DEs injured so we could not contain anyone. Completely different game with those starters in. And I still believe ASU had things go their way in previous years as the good run teams got taken out. In the end, almost every NC run get some breaks, so there is no sense in arguing "what if" unless you can accept another person's "what if".

FWIW, I still don't believe (much to the annoyance of many UD fans) that UD was the second best team in FCS last year. But, that's the way the cards fell.

As I said in another thread, the NC team is often the one who is good, but also a bit lucky.

Just goat back from watching the game. I must congratulate Richmond on their victory, they played lights out tonight. It was one of those games where one team is playing thier best game possible and their opponent never got it togeether from the get go. How much of that is attributable to Richmond's D versus how much is attributable to our D's 8 freshman might be an interesting conversation. However the fact remains that Richmond handed it to us tonight. I cannot wait till next year!!
