As our early polls on here indicated, Edwards and Peach took home the hardware! Congrats to those who won!

Funny, the year we DON'T win the title, our QB wins the Payton award. Anyways, congrats to AE and Peach. Much deserved.

Congrats to all. I think there were more deserving of the Robinson than Matthews but he still had a very good year.

The highlights:
Peach won by the largest margin in Buchanan Award history, earning 39 first- place votes and 313 points...
Peach was just one sack away from the Big Sky Conference single-season record, owned by Montana's Andy Petak with 19, and finished fifth-best in FCS history. He is second in the Big Sky and fourth in FCS for career sacks with 35.5, finishing just three sacks behind Jared Allen of Idaho State, the 2003 Buchanan Award winner and now an NFL standout. Peach also owns school standards for single-season and career sacks, as well as tackles for loss marks for a season and a career.

Not so much hate, but when a couch is so cocky that he thinks he can just put it on cruise control... COY?
Hauck sooooooo out-coached Matthews it should be written into the annals of college football.
It should be studied!

xnodx xnodx xnodxHad the Semifinal game counted towards the voting, or had it been earlier in the year, I think we would have seen Bobby's stock rise, and Matthews's stock drop.
However, Mickey coached one hell of a regular season. xthumbsupx

I would have gone with Landers for Payton and Talley from Villanova for COY, but I think that AE is definitely deserving of the Payton nonetheless. For the Eddie Robinson award I typically weigh huge improvements of programs as more important than sustained success (thus prefering Talley over Matthews or Hauck for that matter).

I'm not saying he should've gotten it, frankly I'm surprised as I thought McBride or Talley would've gotten it before him, plus the fact he already has a Robinson award, but to say Matthews is not hated on these boards is just flat out wrong.

I agree with some of the comments on the Robinson, it would be nice to see it go to someone who has turned a program around over a year or two rather than just the top seed seemingly every year.

Did you give a reason or the reason.?....somehow I think that was lost in translation.
I feel that AE won more for his body of work than for this season, even though he had a very strong one.
the Buchannan award though(well deserved by the winner by the way), I find it interesting that LeGree finished 3rd in the voting but couldn't make some AA teams.

Any of the three finalist for the Payton Award would be deserving winner. Donaldson from Western Illinois with his running statistics are mind blowing. Landers and Edwards have stats through the roof. This was a year when you hate to see anybody not win the Payton Award. Just like playing the game, somebody wins and somebody loses. Sad but those are the rules. Congratulations to all.
It was a great Payton Award night. The Sports Network did a great job. Thanks for all you do for the FCS.xthumbsupx

Well he has 2 of the 3 released so far with the AFCA being the only one to leave him off. I'm sure he will make the TSN 1st team after finishing 3rd in the Buchanan.

I don't hate Matthews, but to me, the Robinson award should go to the person who did the best coaching job. When you look at some of the teams that had major turnarounds for the year I thought there were more deserving. JMU had a very good team going into the year and MM did a good job making sure they were successfu.

I'm not sure if that's a practical question or a hypothetical questions, but there's nothing in the rules that do not allow him to win it again and you've got to think that he's the favorite going in to next year.

I actually agree, although I'm happy that he won it. I was really surprised by how far apart the balloting was on it since there were a lot of really deserving candidates.
Seems like there might not have been a ton of research go into it on the voter's part. People must've put a lot of stock in the comeback win over ASU. And, of course, the way he coached that Hail Mary...:p
Seriously, that Hail Mary might've been the difference in Talley and Matthews for the Robinson.

It's pretty tough to repeat, but he could probably do it if he has another big year. It also kind of depends on what the other players around the country do.
I think Adrian Peterson was in the top 5 for the award all 4 of his years at GSU, but only won the thing once.

Peach is a savage! He was the only highlight for EWU fans watching the Griz game here in Cheney. Can't believe he registered 4 sacks on CB with that massive O-line you guys have. I can't wait until the draft and see how high he gets drafted. I'd say no earlier than 4th round, but no later than early 7th.

Coulson oversees the voting but he does not determine the winner. Another thing you have to realize is that those awards were voted solely based on the regular season performance and at that time London barely got his team in. To be honest I am sure all of the App fans will tell you that they would rather be in the title game than win those awards. Who really cares who the award winners are in the grand scheme of a team sport when you can win a national championship? I'm sure London will be the first to tell you that he would gladly give that award up if it was the only way to win the NC.
