And it's of no surprise...local ties to the Beaumont area (playing in the Golden Triangle) and also played for the new LU head coach Ray Woodard at Navarro.

Quarterback Andre Bevil became the first player to sign a letter of intent this morning to play at Lamar University when the school resumes its football program in 2010.

Bevil, who played high school football at West Orange-Stark, played for Lamar coach Ray Woodard last season at Navarro College.

About 15 people showed up to Bevil's signing at the West Orange football locker room.

He will have two years of eligibility. He was a sophomore QB for Navarro this past year. It'd be like any JUCO transfer, he just redshirts with the rest of them in 2009.

They compete in 2010 as an FCS Independent before playing a full SLC slate in 2011.

Hope we continue to see an increased LU presence on this board. Speaking about new full scholarship teams is surely a pleasure on this board. Perhaps the LU faithful will book September 2010 on AGS...? ;)

Anyhow, I'm curious to see what the makeup is of the LU football team. How many bodies are they going to have for spring football?
