7/$160,000,000. What recession? The Yankees initially bid 6/$140m. The next closest offer was 6/$120m. So the Yanks increase their offer by $20m and another year. That's crazy isn't it? Bid $40m more than the next closest offer? CC must not have wanted to play in New York. But money talks.

If you have the money, do what you have to do to get your guy.

Yeah I know. The scary thing is that they aren't done spending yet. I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 of Lowe, Burnett, Sheets wind up in pin stripes either.

I can't wait for the Press Conference when C.C. says that it has been his lifelong dream to wear Yankee pinstripes.xlolx

So much for his love for Milwaukee and his alleged willingness to take less money for that warm Midwest lifestyle!xrolleyesx

If he moves to the AL, he won't be Shane Victorino's beyotch anymore!:p

This aint nothing. Hanky wants Burnett and Lowe too and even Wants Manny... If he gets all 4 their 2009 salaries would total prolly....

80+ million

In fairness to Sabathia, though, the difference between the Yankee' offer and the Brewers' offer turned out to be $60 million. No matter how much you like Milwaukee, it's hard to turn down an offer that's $60 million better.

The money being paid to baseball players makes it hard to see baseball as a game anymore ...

Yeah, because Hank runs the team... xrolleyesx

They'll sign one of Burnett, Lowe or Sheets (or try to, at least), and then add bench players

No Manny, and no Teixiera, you can be sure of that

Let me trot out my 40-mph fastball (which I keep low in the strike zone) and market myself as the ageless alternative to Derek Lowe! Or Stu Miller...xcoffeex

Or Walt Terrell xlolx
I swear I saw Walt hit 84 on the gun his final year (and that was his fastball) and it did not move like a Maddux Pitch - it just laid there

Unless the math off the top is my head is off, that works out o an average of close to $7,500 a pitch. xeekx

Don't worry, the Braves pitching staff will still fill that role quite nicely.xoopsx

Looks like CC stands for "Cash Cow," both literally and figuratively.

Welcome to AL East, CC.

Hope you continue to fail in the postseason, especially against the Red Sox...again.

It'll just be that much more satisfying when Sabathia and whoever else they sign all suck, and the Yankees continue to fail.

I'm no Yankee fan...
but they were only a few pieces away from being really good
they're going to spend a way (I mean find a way) to fix their problems - you can count on that

C.C. doesn't solve the Yankees pitching woes they normally encounter when it comes playoff time. But on the bright side, the Yanks might have enough now to get back into the playoffs.

That is going to be a sick potential rotation.

CC
Wong
Burnett
Joba
Petit

That is if CC's arm doesn't fall off and Burnett starts showing some consistency and an ability to be coached.

I hate the Yanks and I hate the red sox but I will watch the matchup of CC and Beckett

The proof will be in the post season performance of that group (although Joba might be in the pen and Petite might not even be on the team) - nothing in recent history suggests that's a formidable post-season rotation.

NY Times reporting Burnett is a done deal for the Yankees: $82.5 million for five years.

Nothing like having your career season during your walk year, and have that coincide with the Yankees missing the playoffs.

Great for business.
