This article is about the glove industry, but it got me thinking
I don't think players should be allowed to wear gloves, especially WR's. I think it gives them more grip and they might catch balls they wouldn't normally catch. Takes some of the ability out of the game.
Your thoughts?

Why not take away helmets or elbow pads or...?
It's a piece of equipment. Anyone can use one, therefore the advantage is negated IMO.

If the WR's can't use them, then the LB's and DB's can't use them either. I mean, since those are the players doing the catching on the field.

as far as the helmets and pads, those are used for safety, gloves are not

Gloves came about to combat the LESTER HAYES syndrome.
Him and other Raiders DB's and WR's, would dang near stick their entire hands in jug's of what they called STICKEM and rub it in. The QB's started complaining about the ball being to sticky for them to throw. Seeing a ball stick to a QB's hand and fall 20 yards short of the WR's was the funniest thing.
They outlawed the stuff and in came the gloves a few years later.

Not really.
If a guy can't hold onto the ball, gloves are not going to make a difference.
I have seen plenty of players dropping passes that are ROUTINE simply because they CAN'T hold on to the ball................gloves or not.
Heck, it's probably more of a confort thing than catching anyway. These QB's today put a lot of "pepper" on passes because of the speed the players have developed over the years. Cut's down the "pain" when they catch it. Besides, some of these guy's hands are so big, what would be a spactacular catch to you and me is just routine for them. Like a BASKETBALL player palming a basketball in 1 hand.

How is it an unfair advantage if everyone can wear them? I don't get your argument.
I wore gloves when I played. Mainly I thought they made me look cooler :D I also played in cold weather and it was nice to wear gloves. Some QBs wear gloves on their throwing hand, I don't think that looks cool.

Speak for yourself.
Besides the gloves that lineman wear, linebackers hands take a beating. Some extra protection there is very welcome.
And as for receivers, you think your hands might hurt a bit catching a quick dig over the middle or a slant at the goaline when your QB, who was also a pretty good high school pitcher, slings one in there going how fast?

you are right, they have the choice, so in that sense its not
but i think it lessens the chance that they would drop a pass, therefore affects the outcome of the play at times, i don't think thats right

i guess I'm just of the idea that the game should stay natural as much as possible

Agreed, I would actually wear gloves on Defense, and take them off when I would play offense. I didn't like them for catching the ball, but they did eliminate cuts etc to the hands when playing D

no, but funny
i mean like the technological advances, not so much in football, but like aluminum bats in baseball, or the new golf clubs they have out now, like Tiger needs any help to drive longer

Completely forgot about that, but me too in high school. Gloves at LB, no gloves at FB/TE/TB. (TB was only for a few plays a game - I wasn't that fast!)

Somebody has never had a sliding burn in the palm of their hand...
