I think there was someone on AGS who said something like "Yes, ASU is facing 16 other teams in the playoffs, not 15, because ASU is the only team that can beat ASU."

There's a bit of truth in that kind of assessment.

Obviously, UR has capitalized on the mistakes exceedingly well. Great game by the Spiders.

This kind of reminds me of the '98 national championship game. -7 turnover differential and still only lost by 12 xlolx I guess that's how a CAA team beats a SoCon team, when the SoCon beats themself. :D

Isn't it true that any team can beat themselves?

Richmond has completely shut down ASU's run game. Blame your offensive game planning. Being forced to throw the football in snowy weather isn't a good idea.

This game would've been a blowout if UR could make a kick.

Honestly...nothing to complain about here, when it comes to the big picture. Quarterfinal appearance with a brand new secondary, a 4th-string RB, lots of question marks all season, injuries to #14. Not many programs can say they're capable of that kind of thing.

More than a lot of Mountaineer fans expected this season, so it's hard to be too disappointed. It would be nice to bring home some kind of hardware from Chattanooga, so here's hoping AE brings hom ASU's first Payton award.

One of the things that I'm really loving is on the TV I've been able to hear the Richmond fans :)

I will say that they have seemed loud to me! A couple of times I thought a call had gone ASU's way and it was a UR call.

The pressbox is on the "visitors" side this season, thanks to stadium construction. I'm not sure if that means more mics over there or not. But yeah, the Spider fans sound good.

APP STATES HOME STREAK < GSU
APP STATE NC'S < GSU
BACK TO BACK 3 TIMES > ONE THREE AND A ROW STINT

Sorry if I seem a little angry, I am. It has been a horrible three years for GSU (other than ending app states streak that was almost as good as our two streaks at home).

Now that i've gotten that all off of my chest.

AE will win the payton, and what appy has done over the last few years is simply amazing. I also give many thanks for what they have done for the SoCon and FCS in general!

Good job guys!

Richmond, you did well. We were outmanned and outplayed today. Congratulations. I think you have a real shot to win it all, which would be awesome, considering you have a first year Head Coach. Though I have not been one to doubt the superiority of the CAA this year, I must still say that the CAA is definitely superior THIS year.

Well, you have to promote the school (Wofford) and your games, and entice the fans to show up to support their hometown school. Otherwise, you'll always have low attendance figures and the NCAA will be looking at other schools to host games. Seems the only way Wofford will get home games is to earn a seed...

It's probably the triple option. As a gsu fan I can tell you it NEVER gets plays over 2 or 3 yards, and you Never pass, it is so boring. Oh yeah, you can't win with a highschool offense, just ask Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech.

I don't know how this thread turned into an indictment on Wofford's attendance but it is easier to fill your stadium when you have an enrollment in the 17,000 range. Wofford has an enrollment of around 1,300 students. They probably have less than 10,000 living Alumni.

This may have a little something to do with attendance. We would love to have 30,000 at each home game but it's not going to happen. The Athletic Dept. does the best it can in advertising the games to the community but, as 95 said you can't force people to come to the stadium.

The S'Burg area is a hot bed for High school football with Byrnes and Dorman. If we could just get some of those kids on the team the locals might come out better.

I am hearing the voice of reason... The original Wofford complaint was that they can't get home field playoff games unless they earn a seed. Therefore, increase your attendance (and if need be, beat a top 5 FBS team as you state to achieve that).... I'll say it again, Wofford should have a "head start" in drawing larger attendance since the school is located in a metropolitan area. ASU does it in a smaller mountain town with the closest SMSA being the Hickory area--and I believe the Greenville-Spartanburg SMSA is more populous than the Hickory SMSA... And Boone is still an hours drive from Hickory....

I can't believe what a MORON the ISP/APP announcer was! Several times he commented that Ward was only athletic enough to run for short yardage. That was laughable. We saw his "lack of athleticism" first hand at Elon on Aug 30. Funny.

Congrats to Richmond. At this point I would expect you to do well in Chatt. Best of luck to the spiders.

With all the woffie love I am dishing out, App averaging over 25K is something that GSU could only dream about. Great job guys and an amazing run these past few years!

I knew this game was going to be different the way Richmond was tackling early. Weldon was playing out of his mind. Ireland was solid...his "trial by fire" last year was a disaster.

I can't recall the last time I saw a kicker get benched mid-game. Then he got reinstated for the extra point.

Congrats to ASU on a great run, you ran into UR on a day they put together a complete game (although if the offense had been clicking UR should have had 40+ just off the turnovers).

A lot of people in Spartanburg dont even know wofford plays football. sad but true.

Enrollment has a ton to do with attendance. It also affects the alumni count in the town.

Big schools in small towns draw big crowds. Boone & Harrisonburg - ASU & JMU are the only game in town. UR & Villanova are small schools in cities -- Villanova has it really bad with pro teams & other schools. UR is competing with a 30,000+ enrollment school that is much closer to their stadium (though VCU has no football team they're not going to our games).

Congrats to Richmond. I was really worried about the game coming in and those fears were realized when they got short field twice off turnovers, however Richmond kept leaving the door a little open but App couldnt ever take advantage of it. Richmonds defense forced ASU to play differently and made a lot of big plays on defense and on 3rd down on offense.

I knew the run would come to a end sometime and I dont mind getting beat by a quality team handely. Much better than losing by less than a score and playing the what if game all offseason. Good luck the rest of the way.

I do believe APP will be back near the top next year.

I really don't see this game being as far apart as the score shows. If Brian Quick never falls down at the goal line it probably 26-20 or atleast an imcomplete pass. Instead he falls its intercepted and its 33-13 UR.

Great game by both teams should be an interesting semifinal and Championship game this year seeing it from home.

We're BACK(and 09' hasn't even started, but believe me we are.)

Kind of reinforces how good of a 7-4 team W&M was that we were able to take our 7 turnovers against Richmond and come back from down 20-0 to take them to OT.

I love Mike London's enthusiasm on the Sideline

It's amazing that we lost such a good coach in Dave Clawson, but I wouldn't trade Mike London for anyone. He is such a player's coach, these guys go into battle for him every week. That swarming D you saw today is all him - he's been saying all year to play fast and get to the ball. We did that today against the best.

It's funny, I just got a text from some UR fans in Boone saying that APP fans were trying to unload their tickets to Chatty right after the game.

I guess we wont get to see anymore penalties for flips into the endzone, goal post dunks, and other acts of no class and sportsmanship from the mountaineers this year. Darn. If it werent for the way the players act I would be a App fan. I hope that changes in the future, if not then shame on Jerry Moore. The broadcaster for todays game said that Jerry Moore told quick to dunk it if he got a chance.

Their school chanellor also probably didn't parade up and down the sideline like a clown. Sorry App, I love what your team has done and respect your fans, but that image from last year still burns me.

In response to the no class goal dunks, Coach Moore cleared Quick to do that because he can. He told Quick the week of practice before the Wofford game that if he caught a deep ball like he did then he could dunk it, and he did.

I'm pulling for UNI the rest of the way.xthumbsupx

Didn't like the flip, and Armanti was told not to do it again, if I'm not mistaken. Goal post dunk (wasn't that last week? it sure wasn't today), I was okay with. Geez, let them have a little fun. And as far as Chancellor Peacock being so enthusiastic, I love it. He's the school's biggest fan. Class is determined more with how the other team and fans are treated, IMO. And before you ask it, no, I'm not saying that we're perfect in that regard.

Not whining at all. Is what it is. But happy to say that we and the three time defending champs both gave up 7 turnovers to the Richmond D and we had our chances to win it at the end. Ultimately we didn't, and that's why we're not playing now.

shut up. Our Chancellor is a great person, and bleeds black and gold. His enthusiasm is extremely well received by our fans, and students love him for it.

i'm tired of teams bitching about what they call "classless" whenever a player, coach, etc. gets excited about a big play, win, etc. Ever think that they do these things b/c they love the game so much and are having FUN?

I never said anything about your Chancellor not being a good person or the "classlessness" of App. I've had nothing but good interactions with App fans and really like what your team has brought to the FCS. I just said that image of your school's top dog last year burned me (I was there in person and thought it was out of line behavior for a school's top administrator). Our pres supports the team but probably wasn't on a cheerleader's shoulders today celebrating our win.

Now I'll shut up regarding this topic as you so politely asked. xthumbsupx
