AQ's to all conferences
Seeded 1-16
No regionalization

Just like in what used to be Division I-AA, the tournament would feature four rounds with teams seeded one through 16. Just like the wildly popular and profitable NCAA men’s basketball tournament, champions of all the conferences (all 11 of them) earn an automatic bid to the field.

Yes, all 11. Even the lousy conferences. While no one would argue that the Big South champ is one of the top 16 teams in the country, there are multiple benefits of including champions of low-level leagues.

Bama vs. Penn State or Boise State

USC v. Florida

Heck even the first round of Ohio State v. Texas Tech or BC v. Texas....

What I'd give to have an FBS playoff.

My in-laws are huge Ohio State fans (my wife's brother & sister both graduated from OSU) and they don't want to hear about a playoff. They know the current system highly favors OSU and about a dozen other teams around the country and that's it.

I think they're afraid they'd never get past round 2 in a playoff system...

Great article. Almost exactly what I would mandate if I had the power to do so.

Every FBS, save for a few independents, would control their own NC destiny at the beginning of the season, the way it should be.
