Looks cool. The second sentence of the opening paragraph makes my eye brow raise though.

Well given the comptition when it comes to actual domes in MLB history the Trop doesn't seem so terrible. I'd rank them like this.

1. Sky Dome
2. Metro Dome
3. The Trop
4. King Dome
5. Olympic Stadium

I haven't heard a thing about the stadium in a while.

Poor poor Rays. I suspect the era of publicly financed stadia for a single sport is on hold for now, if not over completely.

No state or local government is going put up hundreds of millions of dollars to build a stadium for an MLB or NFL franchise, then hand over all operations and the resulting profits to said franchises.

You know, as maligned as they were, the multi-purpose stadia were infinitely more practical.

No. Because a location hasn't truly been decided. .
The Trop sucks.

perhaps one of the best domed stadiums ever in Major League Baseball

It looks like a concrete blister!

The new one makes Soldier Field look normal. xnonono2x

That reminds me, I think the Rays really dropped the ball when naming the new franchise. St. Pete built the damn stadium, so I think they should have called themselvs the "St. Petersburg Czars!" It's so f--king obvious too!

Any new stadium should be built at the Florida State Fairgrounds which is at the intersection of I-75 and I-4... perfect location and the land would be cheaper than downtown St Pete especially waterfront.

Never underestimate the ignorance of the general populace. That would fly right over A LOT of people's heads. xnodx

And I believe would have a greater geographic draw too!

But think of the built-in marketing for the Faberge jewellery. They could create and sell a whole line of Faberge Baseballs!

(Okay, now we're really going over the heads of even more people!)

I still think when the Marlins become the Miami Marlins in 2011-2012 that the Tampa Bay Rays will become the Florida Rays and finally move the team between Tampa and Orlando. It makes a lot of sense for them and so would the location.
