Anyone heard of the uproar Pete Carroll at USC is causing by saying the Trojans were going to wear thier home uniforms to UCLA's Rose Bowl this weekend? The NCAA is saying if they do they'll get penalized a timeout per half for the offense. The offense being the away team is required to wear white.

Which causes me to wonder about ...

The NCAA intentionally had a game on Election Night where Miami (OH) wore all red and Buffalo wore all blue. Guess it's okay when the NCAA wants it, but not when a team does.

not a big deal. Carroll reached out to the UCLA coach and former coach before hand and talked to them about it and they seem excited about it.

The team jerseys arent similar color so I dont see it as an issue. they have both worn home jerseys in the same game before, the last time being in 1982.

It was very strange back in September when it happened at the Towson-Morgan State game.

I don't see what the problem is as long as the colors are clearly different.

Obviously, this wouldn't work for Arkansas vs Alabama, but there should be no problem for USC vs UCLA.

I agree that it is no big deal but I still kind of hope that USC loses because they don't have a timeout at the end of the game.

UCLA has told the NCAA that if they charge USC those timeouts that they would call a TO on the 1st play of the game, delaying the game.

That's the crazy thing, USC white is closer to the UCLA blue than their maroon unis are. If anything this is better from a rules standpoint. xnonono2x

That's partialy why Towson went to wearing Black jerseys. The Gold ones at home was too close to the away team whites.

Plus the gold on gold banana uniforms with white helmets was humiliating.

My guess is that the NCAA will have a change of heart. All UCLA has to do is to call time out on the first play in each half, thus evening to TO totals. USC can then agree to do the same next year and so on.

xbowx xbowx xbowx xbowx xbowx xbowx way to go UCLA

the NCAA needs to sit back and stop being such B*****s. USC and UCLA discussed it before it was agreed upon, I think two schools can and should be able to decide simple matters between themselves.

No kidding. If they do that, it would be an incredible show of support for the rivalry. xthumbsupx xbowx

From an artical in the history of the Philadelphia Big Five Basketball Tradition:

However, the most distinct and impressive traditions of Big Five games at the Palestra had to do with the throwing of paper streamers. Up until the early 80’s, at the first made basket, everyone in the crowd would throw paper streamers onto the court. At one La Salle / St. Joe’s game, after it became a technical foul to throw the streamers, the La Salle player (at the coaches request) shooting the free throws squared up to the line, accepted the ball from the referee, took a giant step toward the basket, then shot the free throw making the shot void. After he did the same on the second, the crowd romped and stomped in excitement.

In short, the NCAA made throwing streamers a technical, the teams kept the tradition alive by intentionally voiding the free throw.xthumbsupx

I was at a game when both teams had WHITE jerseys: Yale vs W&M - 1983

No Home Team

When the football teams from William and Mary and Yale came on the field at Norfolk, Va., Saturday both were in white jerseys. The Elis claimed to be the visitors - after all, a Yale team had not traveled this far into the South in 53 years.

But the contest had originally been scheduled for the Yale Bowl in New Haven and later was shifted to become the annual Oyster Bowl event at Foreman Field on the campus of Old Dominion. So William and Mary saw the site as a neutral one, with Yale remaining the home team and the Indians being the visitors.

Interesting story. Funny how something as simple as the assignment of home/away jerseys was overlooked when the venue changed.

Agreed. There's no reason for the NCAA to step in this.
