Defense is really saving this game

WSBE
November 29th, 2008, 03:16 PM
UMASS would beat this team by 20. We beat UMASS by 30. THis is a pathetic performance today. The good news in all of it? I think this defense can take this team to the final 4. The other silver lining is that I can't imagine that they could perform this poorly on offense 2 weeks in a row. BUT (& a big but)...if UNH loses this game, it is inexcusable. I can't believe SIU went 9-2 & beat UNI? I actually am getting excited now that Maine could beat UNI & we'd could have a home game. But again, they need to win this game. Wow - I kow I sound like a homer but they should beat this team by 30

Only 2 scores for SIU, not impossible, but UNH has to be getting more confident with the breathing room. They always seem to be opportunistic and get the bounces, while, except for the one of the refs head.

Sigh.

Just got back from the game. Apoparently I',m drunk enough where I can't drive so someone drove me home. But..very clean game. Botgh teams got basicall one break. (SIU got a roughing the kicker that turned into three points+pass that hit the ref+INT+TD later and NH got the blocked punt for a TD)

NH's KR won the game. Seriously. What was NH's avg. starting fieldp position? Their 45? That won the game. Nothing else. Turnovers were basically even. Everything was even. But starting field position killed SIU.

Good game NH. I'm sad that more SIU fans wouldn't stand up and cheer our fans at the end. I was running at the student section trying to get them up to cheer on our team for a 9-3 season with a new coach, new offense, and new defense to no avail.

Good luck NH rest of the way. Your team and fans are a class act. Only FCS team on thsi board that doesn't make me mad.

KO returns were the difference- otherwise some of those FGs would have been punts from about midfield. Contributing factors were only getting 7 points off of 4 TOs, not like us, and whatever was wrong with Dieker that had him wearing a glove on his throwing hand. I noticed both QBs were overthrowing receivers a lot.

All in all I thought we did OK for a team picked to finish fifth in the conference that was starting one senior on defense and three on offense in a new system. We had our chances but things didn't break our way today, we'll be back.

I wondered about the glove at the game. I asked some folks next to me but they didn't know if he had been wearing a glove all year, I was pretty sure he hadn't.

Threw a lot of balls over his receivers today.

Regardless, great game, cleanest I've seen sans SDSU.

Special teams were huge for you today, and I thought that was the one area we had an advantage. Great jobxthumbsupx . I think your coach has to be a little concerned about starting so many drives at midfield and settling for FGs though, that could come back and bite you against a team that has better KO coverage.

He couldn't cut very well. It's been a blast watching hime play and I wish he could have gone out at full speed, I knew it was worse than they said when he didn't return any punts. I was surprised that Richard White didn't play more, he ran with more authority.
