I wanted to get a fresh thread specifically for 2009 schedules. If you have posted or seen something already posted in the future schedules thread I have all that info already entered.

I will look to upload my first draft of the 2009 schedules early next week after I spend a weekend googling every team.

Lehigh has a very solid but favorable schedule next year. All 11 opponents are D1 and the Hawks have 7 home games!! Home games against Lafayette, Holy Cross, Yale, and Harvard highlite the home slate and Villanova and Colgate are the premier away games. There's very few gimmies and the last 4 games are brutal but with the momentum gained from a win over Lafayette and the 7 games at Goodman, there is reason for optimism.

9/5 Central Connecticut (H)
9/12 Villanova (A)
9/19 BYE
9/26 Princeton (H)
10/3 Harvard (H)
10/10 Georgetown (H)
10/17 Yale (H)
10/24 Bucknell (A)
10/31 Colgate (A)
11/7 Holy Cross (H)
11/14 Fordham (A)
11/21 Lafayette (H)

Brown's schedule for its 2009 title defending campaign. It's the exact same as this years' schedule, just with the home/away flipped:

9/19 Stony Brook (A)
9/26 Harvard (A)
10/3 Rhode Island (H)
10/10 Holy Cross (H)
10/17 Princeton (H)
10/24 Cornell (A)
10/31 Penn (H)

I have to believe it's at Villanova since Lehigh already has 7 home games. This is the schedule given by Lehigh's SID at the LU-LC game.

I'm not sure if 2009 is an 11 game schedule or not, if it is a team can play a 12th game if they play at Hawaii, so Central Arkansas can schedule a 12th game if they want.

So Davidson is playing a REAL SoCoin football team in '09, eh?!

I hope Elon wins 100-0! I think I've made it abundantly clear in the past that I HATE what Davidson's football team is doing even though they participate in the SoCon in every other sport.

From what I can decipher (Portland State's official schedule won't come out until around end of spring practice)...

9/4 @ Oregon State (this one is set).

I know we have six home games next year, which with the Oregon State game on the road means that the other two non conference games will be home. I'm thinking probably Davis and a DII penciled in for now.

Cal for sure. Which leaves two spots to fill. Since we finally paid off the new (2004) press box perhaps we won't schedule two $ games again next year. But with budget cuts, the need for further stadium improvements, and not many OOC options out west I suppose it's still a possibility. Having DII wins not count is a huge disadvantage for western schools.

I have a note about a radio interview in September that Ford said we'd play at Maine in 2009.

I heard Maine, but I thought it was home. Someone official said (McElroy maybe?) that we'd have more home games than away games next year. We have only 3 NEC home games (Sacred Heart, Duquesne, RMU) so that would mean we'd need 3 OOC home games too.

That's why I thought Maine would be home. UMass, Maine and a PL (Fordham hopefully) as the 3 OOC home games. GSU, Central, St. Francis, Monmouth & Wagner as the 5 away games.

danefan

I don't think so next year. I would imagine all of the OOC games will be against AQ conference opponents next year to try and fulfill the conditional AQ criteria.

- host Bryant
- host Dayton
- visit VMI
- visit Bucknell
- host Sacred Heart
- host Wagner
- host St. Francis PA
- visit Duquesne

VMI is the only confirmed nonconference game, but Dayton and Bryant should owe us a return trip to Joe Walton Stadium, and we should owe Bucknell a return trip since they came to Bobby Mo this past year.

2009 Football Schedule

Sept. 5: at Marshall

Sept. 19: Southwest Baptist

Nov. 21: at SEMO

I don't have dates on the conference games yet, but whoever we played at home is away next year and vice versa.

Illinois State, NDSU, SDSU, and YSU have their full schedules out, so we know those 4 games for sure... I made a chart and found 2 possibilities for our schedule. Everything looks in order except for when we face MSU and UNI.

I think I got an educated guess on the entire Missouri Valley conference schedule.

December 1st, 2008, 12:09 AM
Cal for sure. Which leaves two spots to fill. Since we finally paid off the new (2004) press box perhaps we won't schedule two $ games again next year. But with budget cuts, the need for further stadium improvements, and not many OOC options out west I suppose it's still a possibility. Having DII wins not count is a huge disadvantage for western schools.

How about another home and home serries with Cal Poly? We always need OOC games.

Colgate AD David Roach got some significant heat for this schedule because of the absence of a CAA, SoCon or other "major" I-AA conference road game in lieu of six home games, at least one of which will be Colgate's first-ever home night game, new lights having been installed at Andy Kerr Stadium.

I think the early-season schedule this year helped, in the long run, so I too would like to see a stronger OOC slate. Still, we lost both previous meetings with Monmouth and Stony Brook, so maybe we should be careful with who we call "weak" :o

Any idea which will be the night game? Presumably Monmouth? Maybe all through September, which would include Stony Brook and Fordham?

Monmouth would make the most sense, because it is right around Opening Day at Colgate and student schedules are jammed as it is early in the term before things settle down. Probably easier to have a football game at night and attendance will benefit.

P.S. Far be it from me to call Monmouth or SBU "weak", especially after the Hawks knowcked us off and SBU flat-out kicked our butts - they are not weak in any way! We just usually have a CAA on the sked.

I have to believe it's at Villanova since Lehigh already has 7 home games. This is the schedule given by Lehigh's SID at the LU-LC game.

I haven't confirmed it with an official source yet, but its my understanding that Lehigh AT Central Connecticut in 2009 (with CCSU returning a game in 2010).

I will look to upload my first draft of the 2009 schedules early next week after I spend a weekend googling every team.

That is a brutal schedule! You have two easy games on that schedule (West Chester and Towson). The rest are all very competitive teams. Compare your schedule to the schedule my team, Montana plays. Our schedule is an embarrassment. No wonder we have trouble come playoff time.

I thought Bryant counts as a D1 game next year, even though they're not yet a core member of D1 nor eligible for the playoffs. Only the first year for teams out of D2 do not count as D1 games. I could be wrong though.

Gotta love TT as he always puts that San Marcos after TxSt - like there is any other Uni in TX named Texas State so he has to distinguish it for us (or himself) by adding San Marcos.

For the rest of the football world, it's just Texas State to us (TxSt) unless we are being all formal on here.... not.

If you want to do that then say:
Sam Houston State University
University of Central Arkansas
McNeese State University.
Texas State University - San Marcos
etc.

Anyway. I wish we could get someone besides Angelo State, even if they had a good year in 2008. We did a home and home with Cal Poly. Would like to see that again, or anyone else with a good program. Test us right out of the gate.

Starting in the 2010 season, you have to have 8 DI wins to be an at large for the playoffs. Something has to give. Might as well start now.

http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfoot2/news/news.aspx?id=4146516

The Division I playoff committee adopted changes in the selection process that will guarantee entry into the postseason for any conference champion that wins at least eight games against Division I opponents, wins two non-conference games against teams from auto-bid leagues and ranks 16th or higher in an average of the Sports Network top-25 poll, the coaches poll and the Gridiron Power index (GPI) computer ranking.

Maybe I read it wrong? Perhaps it's conference champs? If so, one would assume the at larges would have to have some of the same qualifications. And... some conference champions might not even qualify.

Here's what I'm trying to figure from this. If this year had been 2010. We won the SLC with 8 wins but only 7 DI. Would we still get an auto bid? Do we stop scheduling DII's now to qualify or try to guarantee those 8 wins or drop the FBS schools?
If your conference has 8 teams and a modicum of parity (not mediocrity) you can't assume you will run the table.

I'm really sick and have too many drugs in me to think straight right now.

If you win the SLC AQ, you go to the playoffs regardless. If you win seven wins, you are under consideration. The rules you posted are a "bridge" for the NEC and Big South to get into the playoffs if they meet certain requirements prior to their inclusion in the playoffs.

That article has actually been qualified and explained in a later piece. The conditional bridge access that is detailed above only applies to conferences which currently qualify for an AQ but have been denied. That means it only applies to the NEC. The Big South is not currently qualified for an AQ. They will be eligible in 2010 when they and the NEC will get AQ's.

TT, you can scratch the South Dakota game. From what I hear, from a good source, we wanted to move the game to 2010 because of our chance to play App. St. South Dakota opted for the buyout instead.

I think our first game, which hasn't been announced yet, is with that Div II team from Ark. whose initials are HSU.

You are right, but eight wins alone will not qualify a team.

Clearly, it does not apply to the Big South.

11/7 Bucknell
11/14 Lehigh
11/21 @ Georgetown

Most of this info derives from the Patriot League site. The PL site has us playing @Duquesne on 10/17. While an earlier post and the Cornell site has us playing at Cornell 10/17. While I expect we'll play another Ivy, its curious that Cornell does not have us on their 2010 schedule. I doubt we'd agree to an away OOC game without a reciprocal game at home. Our OOC's this year were URI (H), Dayton (A), Columbia (A), Yale (H), and Marist (H).

We'll have one bye week of course, but it'll be interesting to see if the other two weeks will be games with URI and Marist or with someone else.

Anyone out there with any additional information or ideas?

Richmond dates so far:

10/31 Towson
11/21 WM

Opponents are:

HOME: Villanova, WM, Hofstra, UMass, VMI

Hopefully the CAA does not schedule us for another big conference game over spring break. They scheduled JMU last year at home over fall break. Still had a good crowd though.

I keep hoping that TxSt would get a home and home with Portland State so I could have another chance to see the Vikes play without scheduling a major trip to do so.

That'll be the day. They always schedule a home game for the weekend right before school starts so all the parents and new students can watch us get a guaranteed win against Montana-Western or Western Oregon.

I'm hoping we have another home and home with UC-Davis like we did in 06/07 or whenever it was. It'd be REALLY cool if one of the FBS games were against either UW or WSU. Great shot for a W, and cuts on travel costs.

The only thing we've seen confirmed is opening at Georgia Southern and then playing at home the next week against UMass.

We were told that Albany would have more home games than away games and because of the unbalanced NEC schedule giving only 3 league home games, we would need to see 2 more home OOC games to get 6 home games and 5 away (GSU and 4 NEC away games).

Week 3 or 4 at Albany is likely and Fordham would fit the bill as the last game was at Fordham. I think we'll see another CAA team for Albany at home (maybe Hofstra since we were there this year) and then Fordham. Or at least that's what I am hoping for.

Unlikely we'll see Bryant, but its not definite. It makes no sense for Albany to play Bryant. Albany is playing for the playoffs and without an AQ, playing Bryant is a lose-lose. A win does nothing and a loss will be the end of the playoff run.

I don't think you'll see Albany vs. Bryant until 2010 at the earliest when the NEC has their autobid.

Richmond is not a state school.... but at over $40,000/year for tuition, and loads of absolutely loaded alumni, money isn't the issue.

Anyway.... looking at the renderings I am very excited to have a local venue to be able to check out some 1-AA football... not that the drive to JMU from Richmond is bad... but this gives me something to do on weekends that JMU is in Maine/New Hampshire. Is JMU starting with all those games on the road for stadium expansion reasons?

A post on CAAzone has the UNH v WM game on 11/14???

that post should be right, as it came with the full schedule. As we were figuring games out one game at a time, JMU was the most likely game on that date, but the finalized (I think? I can't find it publicly available) schedule has JMU coming to W&M for our homecoming, and New Hampshire coming to W&M on 11/14.

For JMU: So far UD, Towson, and now W&M have their schedules out. Now we can finally piece most of the JMU schedule together. So looks like no home games till week 6.

10/31: UMass is @ UD, UR is @ TU, @ W&M 10/24. That late it will be a CAA South team, which leaves Nova.
11/14: Already will have played W&M, UD, Nova. Nova is @ TU that weekend, so that leaves UR.

So here is what we have:
9/5 Bye
9/12 @ Maryland
9/19 @ UMass or Hofstra
9/26 @ Liberty
10/3 @ UMass or Hofstra
10/10 vs Maine or VMI (Family Weekend)
10/17 vs Maine or VMI (HC)
10/24 @W&M
10/31 Nova
11/7 @ Delaware
11/14 UR
11/21 Towson

Well, seeing how JMU in the last 5 seasons has never played a CAA North team later than 10/16, I thought I had it all figured out. Then someone pointed out to me some North/South were playing later this season. I looked, and sure enough, over the last 2 seasons there have been 4 North/South games in Nov.
-09' of the 3 schedules I see out (UD, Towson, W&M) I see is Towson is @ Northeastern 10/24, UMass @ UD on 10/31, & W&M hosting UNH on 11/14. So darn it, just when I thought I had it all figured out someone had to point out that North/South can play later. xcoolx Oh well, that makes the schedule back to looking like a jumbled mess. So still need a couple a couple more CAA oponents to announce their schedules. Here it is with all possibilities listed, basically going off the UD, Towson, & W&M schedules + @ Maryland & @ Liberty dates have already been announced (bolded is confirmed):
9/5 Bye
9/12 @ Maryland
9/19 @ UMASS, @ Hofstra, UR, Maine, Nova
9/26 @ Liberty
10/3 @ UMass, @Hofstra, UR,
10/10 Maine, Nova, UR, VMI home game-Family Weekend
10/17 Maine, Nova, UR, VMI home game-HC
10/24 @ W&M
10/31 Nova, Maine @ Hofstra
11/7 @ Delaware
11/14 UR, Maine, @ Hofstra, @ UMass
11/21 Towson

The AD continues to labor under the assumption that if he schedules enough Ivy League opponents, we will (a) qualify for the Ivy championship (when/if the Pards ever beat an Ivy team or two), and/or they will allow us to use their libraries.

This is not a cake walk for a team that folded like a cheap suit at the end of 2008, losing 3 of its last 4 and, if the truth be told, didn't even bother to show up for the final game.

No, I don't.

We tried to get both TxSouth and P-View over the past few years because we want to play in Houston more often. The P-View Coach told us "Not yet" 2 years ago, and the Tex-South coach never called us back.

I think P-view might be be ready now. They have improved a bit.

It would be interesting if we have a repeat of '08 and lose only 1 to the SWAC West champ. lol Wonder if we'd get that bid we thought about being considered for? xreadx

I hope things can get worked out (contract wise). Our last tilt w/ McN shouldn've occurred. We were NOWHERE CLOSE to being ready for that caliber of competition. Now? We're young, somewhat experienced, and our ONLY real question mark is @ the QB position. But, we do have an Oklahoma ;) related who sat out last fall who has the physical tools (6' 4" - 217lbs) and the mental tools (very intelligent kid) and seems to be a student of the game, so to speak. xreadx Also, we've got to find a way to have Weeden, Ball, and Babers on the field @ the same time IMO. xreadx Ball's too great of a talent to be arbitrarily playing w/ his blazing speed.

I just checked out the calendar for next year and Oct 3rd is parents weekend (dumb) and Oct 10th is fall break which will mean that it will be very hard to get students to go on a bus trip to watch JMU lose at home for the 3rd time in a row.

Really? No game on parents weekend? That does not sound correct, I wonder if they will change parents weekend. And I am OK with @JMU being fall break, better that than a home game as it has been the last couple of years.

I bet they move Family Weekend to the VMI Game, September 24.

Bought out or postponed trip to U So Dak?

What I have heard, from good sources, is that we wanted to postpone the game a couple of years when we got the chance to play at App. St.. But South Dakota opted for the buy-out instead.

Bought it out.

We offered them a choice of a new date or a check, and they took the money...

I would agree with you. The football game is the main attraction for parents weekend - they would not want to lose that revenue especially with the attention of the team now.

Trust me, Parents weekend will be a weekend when we have a home football game. Forget it.

Actually, if you'll look here (http://www.libertyflames.com/index.cfm?PID=10873&TeamID=9) and here (http://www.goprincetontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=46859&SPID=4263&DB_OEM_ID=10600&ATCLID=301038), you'll see that Lafayette plays at home against Liberty on 9/19, and Princeton plays at home against The Citadel.

then it's probably 10/24 because 10/31 is a family weekend and presumably a home game (I'm guessing elon).

Just switch Elon and Western and I think your right.

This is a tenative 2009 schedule for Portland State that has been garnered from Oregon State's and other Big Sky schools that have released their 2009 schedules. Last year we didn't fill the open slot so we had basically two byes. Hopefully this year we can get a quality team to fill the slot and not a cupcake.

I do know that in 2010 we were originally scheduled to play Arizona State, but since Oregon decided to drop the Central Michigan Chippawas in favor of a game for PSU, it looks like in 2010 we will have two FBS teams on the schedule.

[Sept 5 AT Oregon State]

[Sept 12OPEN]

[Sept 19 AT Montana]

[Sept 26 HOME vs Weber State]

[Oct 3 HOME vs Sacramento State]

[Oct 10 AT Northern Colorado]

[Oct 17 HOME vs Northern Arizona]

[Oct 24 BYE]

[Oct 31 AT Eastern Washington]

[Nov 7 HOME vs Montana State]

[Nov 14 AT Idaho State]
