The Sports Animal (local sports talk) is reporting that Kiffin was offered the job and that he's asked his dad to come as DC.

Trying to find a link.

Monte knows his defense perhaps better than anyone since Buddy Ryan. However i'm not sure at his age how he would relate to college kids after being in the NFL for so long. He did coach at N.C State for a couple years but that was a looong time ago.

I doubt that Monte would bounce for a college gig this late in his career. The only way he would is if he was ready to retire, and decided that he might as well "retire" to a booth in Knoxville and help his son get a program going there.

I hope it turns out well. I don't really think Kiffin really has that great of a resume.

Hamilton has a good track record of making great hires, though. Bruce Pearl is THE MAN.

Lane Kiffin vs Urban Meyer, Mark Richt, Steve Spurrier, and Nick Saban.

The folks on UT scout message board are going crazy. A LOT of them hate this hire!!!

Ed Orgeron will definitely be on staff and there is talk of David Reaves leaving Spurrier's staff to join the new staff at UT. He and Kiffin are brothers in law. It is gonna be weird seeing Fulmer for the last time on UT's sidelines tonight in Knoxville. Hope the Vols send him out a winner.

As a semi Vols fan since Peyton's days, I like the hire. I thought Fulmer got a raw deal but this is not all that bad.

Should of went with Brian Kelly. An Assumption Grad in Worcester and he has made a hell of career at GVSU, CMU and now Cincy.

Looks like UT has wised up to the fact that defense does not win championships and are going after an offensive-minded coach. Kiffin may not have been impressive with the raiders but his offensive scheme sure made Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart look a lot better than they really were.

By the way, did anyone hear Lee Corso making fun of the hire on college gameday yesterday?

Yeah. I hope he does well, and I hope the Bucs give one of Monte's disciples the job instead of trying to hire someone new... Someone like Raheem Morris would be perfect. xthumbsupx

And David Reaves, an Appalachian Alum, is leaving South Carolina for Tennessee.

He's considered one of the best recruiters in the business.
