The NCAA if it wants to retain any credibility must start seeding 1-8 instead of 1-4. It is just ridiculous to have 2 top 8 teams playing each other in the first round.

If you are in the top 8 you deserve a home game, period.

Isn't it next year the tournament goes to 20 teams? Maybe that will help a little as there will be 2 more at-large teams.

5 teams from 1 conference is a little much it seems to me.

That would make perfect sense but we all know its all about the money. The top 4 seeds have the top 4 attendance. JMU and App fine, but the other two are a little suspect

Woco, I am curious which teams you believe should have been the 3 and 4 seed.

Note that SC State wasn't in the running for a seed.

While they don't have it right, at least we do have a playoff system and opposed to having computers decide who plays each other for the championship xnodx

There really will never be a right way. And the only true way, in my opinion, is a home/away round robin with every team, but of course that would be impossible (unless you wanted the champion to be awarded like every 15 years or so:D ).

I can't wait till it goes to 20 teams and the CAA starts getting 6 teams in. A lot of you guys on this board are going to have a field day with that one. xlolx

psst - seeding didn't work well the last time it was used. It just gave one more thing to criticize the committee on as there were 16 additional things to argue about.

Oh, and the CAA has 12 teams - getting 5 in isn't crazy. Just wait until we get 6 or 7 in with an expanded playoffs and a 14 team conference! xlolx

Where did Maine's numbers come from?

Woco, I am curious which teams you believe should have been the 3 and 4 seed.

Dont get me wrong. They are viable options but so were Cal Poly and Vil. Heck, lets say that it was a push. The deciding factor appears to be attendance. Wofford wasn't this year but if we are the bubble team against Montana to get a seed, I think we would get woofed every time.

oops, messed up. Maine is 4693/10000. Those were W&M's numbers. The post was as of last week. This week is at http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/2008/Internet/attendance/FCS_AVGATTENDANCE.pdf

The chair said head-to-head is huge and Montana beat Poly. UNI fans kept going on about how they should get seeded, but I didn't believe it til the bracket came out.

There is nothing about UNI's resume that suggests they should be seeded over a number of teams, including the one that beat them. I thought Villanova and SIU were more deserving (UNI doesn't have a win over a team that's in the playoffs, I believe).

xpeacex So in 2010 when they go to twenty teams in the playoff we won't have these problems?

To be honest, I feel like the system in place is probably the best available. I mean the purpose of the playoffs to to determine who has the best team right? So to be the best you have to beat the rest, correct? Whether that's in the first round or the championship shouldn't matter.

That said, teams should get a reward for earning a top 4 seed. One reward of-course is home-field advantage. Another would be having to play a "weaker" opponent, so maybe the matchups for the top 4 seeds should be determined without regard for travel distance.

But then again, America loves to cheer for the underdog. And wasn't it a lot of fun to see our tiny little team knock off one of the big boys in Montana last year (apologies to Griz fans)? I even think the Grizzlies would agree that matchup was more fun than a game with a cupcake would have been.

Anyway, that was a lot of typing just to say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And also Let's Go Terriers! Let's do it again!!!

Liberty has been up there in filling stadium capacity and they have had some good numbers.
