YSU is right up there. Their main side is awesome with excellent press boxes and seating. I was there a few years ago as my dad's relatives are from Youngstown so I even have a Pete and Re-Pete sweatshirt!!

I appreciate that; I went to Wash-Griz before your expansion when we beat you up there; it was awesome; reminds me of the Ice Castle with the snow and being loud; we got a 70 row side and a 30 or so row side; your's is about the same but in a great enclosed area. I wish I had YSU's drawings they had displayed at the museum on the concourse of the expansion they planned with the new side.. It was awesome!

While Goodman is a picturesque place to play with South Mountain trimmed in burnt orange in the background, as far a stadiums go, Princeton's is absolutely stunning--especially in terms of closeness to the field, sightlines, and facilities. Plus it seats 27,000.

I like all the schools that participate for different reasons, from Savannah State to Portland State... from sea to shining sea. I don't have a favorite, I can find positives about every program. :nod:

Not to be picky but didn't Marcus Daly put the university in Missoula (and the ag school in Bozeman)? I know some Butte people consider Daly and God to be the same, do they consider them to be the same in Missoula too?

Three of the better stadiums in terms of beautiful setting in the south are Davidson's Richardson Stadium, Furman's Paladin Stadium and Appalachian State's Kidd Brewer Stadium (especially with 25,584 fans packing it). All of them are spectacular when the leaves are changing. Another one I like, but it isn't a I-AA site is La Playa Stadium in Santa Barbara (home of the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros). It's right across the street from the Pacific Ocean. Nothing like a sunset there, with the Sun going down behind the Channel Islands.

Princeton is perhaps better. I've never been to either, but it's bigger, newer and also encircles the field like Wash-Griz. I'm sure the atmosphere is 100x better at UM, but comparing just the empty stadiums, Princeton certainly compares.

Ditto, 89'. Princeton's football facilities- not just their stadium- have got UM beat hands down. Those two and YSU are, IMO, the Top 3 in I-AA. There's a huge drop off after those three.

I've heard our next expansion is on the table for approval, which will most likely happen.

1. 2000 new seats (would bring capacity to 25,850 with standing room, 25,118 actually seated)
2. A new row of Luxury Boxes and new Press Box
3. A new locker room, offices, and weight room at the South end (the end with the scoreboard/big screen).

Have you been to Youngstown? It really doesn't feel that open during a game with the place packed (well, close to packed). And you don't get a high school feel when you're in the place - sure the stands are smaller on the other side, but they're not tiny by any stretch of the imagination, you have great sight lines, and the home side is huge (especially with the luxury suites). No doubt that the Ice Castle is one of the best venues in IAA.

There is nothing quite like the atmosphere in the Dome when there are 15,00 in the place. Way better atmosphere than even Kinnick in Iowa City

Princeton has a nice stadium but the fans are still too far from the field. Looks like 30+ feet from the stands to the sidelines. If you note the three lines that run the length of the side lines, Montana's stands would be at the first line.

Actually, I have it on good authority (my sister's hairdresser's uncle's brother-in-law knows God personally) that when he finished creating Montana, God told Marcus Daly to put UM in the nicest location he could find except the Bob Marshall (that was God's private playground). Marcus decided that Missoula was the place he'd put UM - that's why it's here.
God told Daly he didn't care where MSU was located. Daly was a bit of a homer so he picked a decent place (Bozeman) for them too.

And no, Daly and God are not one and the same. they are however, good friends.

BTW: Rumor has it that after creating the Bob Marshall, God took off his tennis shoes and went for a walk in his private new playground. In fact, I heard that the Bob is where God lost his tennis shoes.....but, that's another story.

I know some people may not like domes but I think the Fargodome is one of IAA's better stadiums. It is a great facility and there really isn't a bad seat in the place. The atmosphere at the Dome last Saturday against SDSU was great and the place was really rocking.

No such thing as "too close." ;) Herein lies WG's big advantage for the Griz--the closer you are, the louder you sound.

There's enough room for teams and gear, even enough room for Sac State to squeeze in a can or two of Pam--but not an inch more.

What's also neat about Princeton's stadium it that they kept the outline of the original Palmer Stadium that sat about 45,000 in a big horsehoe. You can see the outline of old Palmer around the top rim of the stadium wherein there is a walkway that connects both sides.

Well, Ronbo, I've been out there for two games - Maine and New Hampy; a Spring Game, too. Do you remember what Cap'n Cat always posted about you people out there? And, did I EVER pass judgment on individual tailgate parties, as you say? I think not.

All I said was that GSU seems to be more of a community because 90% of them are all in one place, right at the foot of the stadium. That's all. My memories of Pols and Grizo and you and Vic and Brian and ButteGriz and their lovely wives and girlfriends are NOTHING but positive. And, at New Hampy, D1 and I took the opportunity to walk around to several other parties and absorb the WHOLE scene. It was fabulous.

Maybe the weather had something to do with it. At New Hampy game, I was freezing my fat azz off, while at GSU, I was sweating my fat azz off. Fans were just as loud and friendly; the girls are just as pretty, they just wore less clothes at GSU. Can you blame a guy?

1 thing about Sac State. I went to last weeks game and it all sucked ballz. It was a pathatic excuse for a tailgating area. You did it next your car in the parking lot. Oh and by the way, does the Sac State fans tailgate??? All of the Griz fans were in the lot partying. We went on a search looking for the Sac fans and there were none. The field is surrounded by a track so wide you can not see the players on the sidline. I was sitting on the 50 row 1. Their fans did show... all 75 of them. Griz had over 3000 there. 1000 miles from Missoula...
Is that bow in the field there for a reason??
