Prognostications...I do not see a home team losing in the first round this year. Big upsets in the QFs with Cal Poly over Montana and SIU taking out UNI. Of course, this all depends of the health of Armanti Edwards. Moore says he's going to be ready, but that may be coach talk.

Prognostications...I do not see a home team losing in the first round this year.
Maine or UNH will take down one of the home Gateway teams.

Second Round
Villanova at (1) James Madison
Cal Poly at (4) Montana

Richmond at (2) Appalachian State (ESPN Game)
New Hampshire at (3) Northern Iowa

That would be a killer quarterfinals. A rematch of a Hail Mary, a rematch of a missed chip shot and two rematches of last year playoff games. xeyebrowx

Amazing the number of people with Wofford beating JMU. I think Wofford is a hell of a team, especially for a first round, but don't you think that JMU players had sat and been sent on the road one too many times over the past few years?

I think JMU players cannot wait to prove what they can do at home! App St. saw it first hand, so will the Terriers.

Good luck to all!

Feel like I'm venturing in to the unknown on a lot of these picks, but let's see what happens (being that everyone is doing it)...

Wofford @ JMU---No favors out of the gate for #1. Wofford's good, but JMU seems a lock in this game. WINNER--James Madison

Colgate @ Villanova---Colgate may be a good team, but could not see them getting in without the Patriot AQ. Thing is, Villanova seems to play to the level of their competition, whether up or down. Still, WINNER---Villanova

SC State @ Appalachian State---SC State comes in on an eight game winning streak, but they have not face a team like Appalachian State. WINNER---Appalachian State

E. Kentucky @ Richmond---E Kentucky rolled through the Ohio Valley, can they roll through Richmond. WINNER---Richmond

Maine @ Northern Iowa---Maine? Must be that strong CAA conference. Why else would they be here. WINNER---Northern Iowa

New Hampshire @ Southern Illinois---Like Villanova, Southern Illinois seems to be a little shaky, particularly down the stretch. Is it a good time to play a team like New Hampshire? Winner---New Hampshire

Texas State @ Montana---Second week Montana plays the Bobcats. This time its Texas State. Does it matter? WINNER---Montana

Weber State @ Cal Poly---Maybe a blessing as Weber State has not had good showings the last three games in Ogden. One thing that's true, Cal Poly has a "damn kicker". WINNER---Weber State

QUARTERS---

Villanova @ James Madison---A rematch, but this time at James Madison. Will it matter. WINNER---James Madison

Richmond @ Appalachian State---How strong is the CAA? Strong enough to beat the defending champs at their place? WINNER---Richmond

New Hampshire @ Northern Iowa---How strong is the CAA? Can they beat the MoValley in their place? WINNER---Northern Iowa

Weber State @ Montana---When Weber State beat Montana earlier, the Griz fans wanted to face them in Missoula. I guess, be careful what you wish for. WINNER---Weber State

SEMIS---

Richmond @ Northern Iowa---At this point, tell me UNI is not rocking. WINNER---Northern Iowa

Weber State @ James Madison---Cinderella can only take you so far. WINNER---James Madison

FINAL---

Northern Iowa vs James Madison---As if we didn't know. WINNER---James Madison

You'll want to make your move in the 3rd quarter, that's when SIU is shaky. They tend to dominate the 1st, 2nd, and 4th quarters. Although they have trailed for a total of 00:00 minutes in their eight wins, they are still a dangerous team and capable of upsetting UNH.

Well I am sure that coach Moore will play his cards right when all the marbles are on the line. We've got the upper hand something big in this bracket. For one we have home field advantage at THE ROCK which is huge.. Plus we've got experience... We've been here and we know what to expect. I feel like our boys play on a different level in games of this caliber such as the playoffs. I have full confidence in our coaching staff, though I would like to see us run an option or something on those 3rd and short or 4th and short plays in the red zone...I just ain't feeling these up the middle calls.

I don't it'd be an upset for them to beat UNH, Hound. I think they're likely a slight favorite, though it seems to be a pretty even game to me. I like SIU's quality of wins (WIU, SDSU, UNI) more than I like UNH's (Maine, Army, UMass, Albany), even if the computer numbers might suggest otherwise.

Those are the plays I'm talking about and the 4th downs not in the red zone. They were making mistakes against Elon and WCU and both of those games mattered. They both had huge playoff implications. We are banged up and the weather isn't gonna be in our favor when it comes to injuries. We are a team that doesn't go straight down the field or run it up the gut. Our guys need room to move and to plant that foot and accelerate. Look at the Elon game. Edwards never loses the ball and lost it twice to slippery conditions. I'm just saying....I don't expect us to breeze through this year. God, I'm itching for a 4th title just like the rest of the App faithful, but I'm trying to look at it as an observer, not a fan when making my predictions

When you have a 215 to 235 pound guy running the ball up the middle you expect to get the 1st on 4th and inches. They could just give Armanti the option to throw or run which is usually the best option App has.

I agree with ya, but now that I'm analyzing it more thoroughly I believe JM and Satterfield have been experimenting with the running up the gut plays to see if it would actually work. And of course, it doesn't xsmhx But we know that now, without it hurting us or having to take a chance on figuring that out in the playoffs.

The playoffs are the AE show as we all know xnodx I've never seen one player take over the way he does...along with his cast of characters (KRich, DFowlkes, DMoore - 4th down last year against JMU, JJohnson - against UMass, DJackson, etc.) But HE is the determining factor in most of the playoff games played, along with Richie. I believe that JM and Satty know this and will let him dictate the offensive series throughout the game.

This entire year has been an experiment IMO, whether it be with the struggling WR corps earlier in the year, to the lack of RB's healthy enough to put up the gawdy #'s KRich had, to the inexperienced DB's. Those tests have been passed....I do believe ASU will kick it in to a higher gear now that the games are really on the line. The Wofford game IMO is the true App State team that will show up now in the playoffs. This is where determination, experience, and talent prevail.

God, did that sound homerish or what? :D xlolx

Oh, ASU over Montana :D xrotatehx xsmiley_wix

nope App State alum...but i can always go back and be a homer and pick App to squash everyone. I've watched App football for too many years to think we are going to roll like last year. We are banged up bad right now and I think the only way App wins a championship is if AE suddenly becomes 100% and has his best post season ever because we can't rely on the run considering our top 3 rushers are all out or banged up.

logical choice, but I haven't personally seen this kind of confidence in my fellow fans since 1995. People on campus acted like we were Gods of Football and couldn't lose in 1995. I see the same thing on this message board. I was there in 1995 and that's what scares me this year. Happy Thanksgiving and try to have more faith !!!!

If you call me out on living in the past, then call every single App poster on this board or hell any poster on this board for living in the past because App won last year or the year before or the year before.

I want App to win just as much as any fan. I endured many many long years watching us miss the playoffs or get knocked out in the first round, so the last 3 years have been nothing but cloud 9, and as a Diehard App Fan, and Alumni, I want us to win and win big (I booked my hotel in Chattanooga a long time ago fyi).

Just because I don't think App will "breeze" through the playoffs like most, doesn't make me a negative reasoner. I think it makes me realistic. People keep using the "experience" factor and such. But that's living in the past right. I mean this team is not running on a ton of experience. Backup QB, go to TE, Big Receiver, star secondary all either freshman or first year players.

I brought up 1995 because that year we went undefeated in the regular season and in conference play. Had a little fella called Dexter Coakley, were as talented as you could be, and all people talked about was playing Marshall in the title game since we finally beat them that year. If you don't see the similarities with JMU thats fine.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and safe travels the rest of the holiday.

Panther fans should hope we have better teams in the future because in the back of their minds they know that the only team they could ever beat for a National title would have to be YSU--Since you guys represent our conference I still will root for you--GO PANTHERS!

My comment was directed at Pete and not other Penguin fans, Dave. He will stop at nothing in his quest to end all things Panther. Kind of reminds me of these guys:

I'm gonna get you Austin Powers....and your Panthers too!

LOL!!!! Not familiar at all with Pete--found it a bit odd that he would highlight our 7th finish in the MVFC!

Ah yes, 'tis the time of year for Petey to come down with a case of Panther Envy. How many years in a row has it been now, Pete? Eight?

Enjoy your seat on the couch watching the big boys play while the Ice Castle melts away--not due to global warming, but rather the villagers of Youngstown burning it down so they don't have to watch your God-awful team play anymore.

LOL but god awful team i think that might be a bit much. Just look in the record book and you'll see how great our program is compared to yours. And I wouldn't count UNI as a big boy yet he's still on potty training

Hey, you have me all wrong I would love to see a mvc team win it all but seriously uni are you kidding. app, jmu, wofford, richmond, and montana i think all could beat down the panthers pretty good.
