Wolverines of Michigan probably thought they had an edge wrestling Lehigh in cavernous Stabler Arena, rather than the familiar and intimate "Snake Pit" at Grace Hall. Instead, they faced 3,000 rabid fans bringing back the ol' stomp and cheering the aggressive moves of the young Mountain Hawks. Lehigh took 6 of the ten bouts and even the four they lost were hotly contested. Major Decisions were recorded by Matt Fisk at 133 and Trevor Chinn at 149. Other winners for Lehigh were Fr. Sean Bilodeau (157), Mike Galante (165), David Craig (184), and Zach Rey (285).
John McDonald at 118 battled back from an initial 4-0 deficit, but lost by one and Seth Ciasulli at 141 lost in sudden victory to #5 nationally ranked Kellen. Soph. Alex Caruso battled #1 ranked Steve Luke gamely, losing 7-5 and Frosh, Joe Kennedy rallied hard in the third period before losing to #3 Tyrel Todd, 5-3.
New Head Coach Pat Santoro now has the team at 3-0 with wins over two preseason Top 20 schools when Lehigh was preseason #41. The new aggression and out-hustling their opponents in the third period is evident, and no question rejuvenation has occured to this storied program in its
100th Season.
Next up is Princeton, Sunday afternoon back at the Snake Pit. Lehigh may well move up into the Top 15 after this weekend.xthumbsupx
