View Full Version : Rev Jesse Jackson on TO

Well our favorite loud-mouth has opened his mouth once again, this time on the whole T.O saga. There's quite a few folks I can't stand who seem to put themselves in the middle of everything. Liberal or conservative, I can't stand these folks. Is Pat Robertson coming out next? Jerry Falwell? We already have Ralph Nader and the Rev. Guess the conservatives won't come out because T.O is "un-Godly"...

The complete statement from the Reverend...

"Terrell Owens did an interview last week and engaged in some unsportsmanlike speech, deemed detrimental to the team, but nonetheless free speech. He expressed some dissatisfaction with his contract, his team and the Eagles' organization, which should have been expressed in a more professional manner. The Eagles have suspended T.O. for four games without pay and have decided to deactivate him for the rest of the year. His future in the National Football League is uncertain, thus potentially ending his career at its heights.

"This punishment is much too severe for the charge. If he had been caught shaving points, selling drugs, carrying a gun or fighting some fans, who provoked him, and he had not shown sufficient restraint, we could understand the severe suspension, because those are very serious and illegal acts. Unfortunately for T.O., who belatedly apologized three days after the infraction, the real question is do his comments warrant a penalty this severe?

"The answer is no. This does not warrant a one-year ban from the game. The NFL Players Association has taken a position that the punishment does not correspond with the infraction and the association wants the Eagles to cut T.O. if they are not going to reinstate him. I agree. T.O. has publicly apologized. His heart is contrite. If the Philadelphia Eagles' owners do not find his apology acceptable and no longer aim to maintain an association with him, they should release him to the open market or free agency, allowing him to test the free market for his services. I call for fairness in this dispute."

Ugh - at least he is not threatening to invoke God's wrath on Philly.... :D

The left has Jesse, the right has Pat - who's the bigger fake?

Too late. God did that with the Phillies in 1964. :D

At least he didn't say the "true" reason for T.O.'s suspension was the fact that he's black. I'm actually impressed with Rev. Jackson for not resorting to that.

I really get annoyed when people use "free speech" in an argument like this. Free speech is about not getting thrown in jail, not about keeping your job. Employers pretty much have the right to do whatever they want - if that company in Ohio can get away with firing employees for smoking, surely the Eagles can get away with paying someone not to come to work.

If I went on a rampage about my boss and my peers, I'd be out of a job very quickly.

If you went to work and bad mounthed the corporation publicly wouldn't you expect to be terminated? Afterall, your actions would be considered a form of INSUBORDINATION. When you agree to a position with a firm, you ARE obligated to do your job, and that is all that is requested of you.
Now, if Philly did release T.O. is there any guatrantee another team or any corporation for that matter would want to hire such an individual? The answer is no. If Rev. Jessee wants to give him a job working with him, why doesn't he. He wants to make everything into a racial issue. Donovan McNabb and the rest of the Eagles deserve better treatment, just as did the 49ers and Garcia. I would never hire such a person as T.O. They are not good for business.

I don't see how race could have anything to do with it. If it is brought up then they all need to look and see what race McNabb is. He has taken all this crap from T.O. with grace and humility although in private he may want to kill him. Time to get this cancer out of that organization.

Al Sharpton got involved with the Terry Schiavo case...

I don't think that's relevant to this particular topic. This is about millionaire's jobs, not the life/death of a brain-dead woman. Myself, I can't find an ounce of me that could get a snicker or laugh in concerning Shiavo (I surely hope there isn't anyone out there like that!!!!)...but this whole ordeal with T.O. definitely makes me laugh. Because after all, he's "got a family to feed", and apparently 7 million a year isn't enough dough to feed that HUUUUUUGE family of his!!!

And how does the Good Reverend know that TO was cast aside based on his comments alone? If I were TO I wouldn't be to excited about the prospects of having Jackson and Nader in my corner :D This is more about Jesse Jackson getting some spotlight time than helping TO.

Jesse Jackson is a national joke, Ralph Nader is good for only one thing, and that's siphoning votes away from Democratic Presidential candidates. Having these two jokers on TO's team is practically a deathblow to his cause and just makes this thing an even bigger joke.

That "apology" the Rev. said TO gave was no more than a prepared speech that someone wrote for him. I don't care what he says or does, he has no credibility as a player or a person. I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth because it is all about TO.

God, how much do we have to hear about T.O.? Jesse Jackson should step up and say that his boisterious behavior is uncalled for and that T.O. got what he deserved. You can unite the black community and not make comments that are just plain ignorant. T.O. was not a team player. There's no "I" in team but you can spell "ME" and that's what T.O. saw. :deadhorse

We have a winner!!! The most racists group in America(blacks) are wining b/c one of their own got punished for being a bitch. Reverand Jesse should worry about more important things, like his illegitimate daughter.

"I..uh..am here...uh..today..on behalf of Mr. Owens. He...just not makes good catches....but makes good plays." For a man wanting to make his race better, he sure has overlooked the fact that the organization he belongs to calls him and all his people Colored, which I thought was a racial slur.

I'm gonna get a lot of ***** for this but I speak my mind...Which group blames other groups for thier own poverty, crime, and other problems? Which group have I seen publicly, call out for the death to all whites on national television. Which group have I seen get mad because some people use the n-word, then in turn use it towards each others(that's hypocrisy in my opinion)? I admit, whites are not perfect, but we do not blame others for our poor social position. We do not blame a race for our lack of education. This is America where immigrants take advatage of what have to offer and succed over portions of the native population. So, no I am not racists b/c i'm a white southern boy that has seen racism and hate towards groups personally(I recall the KKK beating my ass when I was 14 because i'm Irish Catholic, and if you don't know, the current incarnation of the KKK hates just about anyone who is not a White Protestant). I understand the plight of people that have not been able to rise above thier poor social condition. But people from all classess have the same oppurtunity to attend some sort of school and do the best they can and succed. Those who don't take advantage of these oppurtunities, then complain because they can't get a job better look inward to discover the problem. But I am not a racists, any person of any color who blames another person or another race for thier problems when clearly they are not at fault is someone that I do consider a racists. So don't try and to elude to me being racists. My opinion, like i said, is from personal expierences. And if you don't like my opinion, you have the freedom, but do not attack my person without knowing where I am coming from.

That would be WHITE ...............WHITE FLIGHT anyone? Anything that don't turn out the way you see it ........SOMEBODY ELSE CAUSED IT. You cut and run.

Which group have I seen publicly, call out for the death to all whites on national television.
That would be the KLAN, SKINHEADS, ARIAN NATION.............but they have only been calling for our deaths since................. FOREVER.

Which group have I seen get mad because some people use the n-word, then in turn use it towards each others(that's hypocrisy in my opinion)?
WHICH GROUP? ..................so now every black ENDORSES USING HE N-WORD. He!!, I guess to you we all look alike so we must all think alike.

I admit, whites are not perfect, but we do not blame others for our poor social position. We do not blame a race for our lack of education.
YA'LL don't ................that's a joke you don't even believe.
And as for your education.................I guess those white women THAT WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO GET IN MICHIGAN LAW SCHOOL blamed AA by mistake a few years ago....................HELL, THEY STILL DOING IT.

This is America where immigrants take advatage of what have to offer and succed over portions of the native population. I'm not eluding to you being a racist ....................your statement I responded to proves you are one.

Don't attack your person without knowing where YOU comming from?!?

OK ................I'm from Mississippi .......JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI.
Let me judge THE MOST RACIST GROUP I KNOW ..............WHITE PEOPLE, BY WHAT I HAVE SEEN HERE SINCE 1964.
That's where I'm comming from. How much crap do you think I have been through at the hands of whites growing up at ground zero of NECK-VILLE

I'll say it. Every group in history is racists. Egypitans were racists of the Jews during slavery. Whites and blacks are racists towards one another. We know. I did not know your personal history, and it is sad that white people treated others that way. Its horrible how slaves were treated, white, black, asian, Jewish, Arabic, etc... I really do not want to get into this anymore, because my opinion has struck a nerve with you. Being that I have offended you with my opinion, I apologize. But I still stand by statement that I see a lot of racism coming from the black population. And I see it from the whites, perhaps i'm looking at what is seen in the media, music that is supposed to imitate life and so on...So. This will be my last comment on the subject. I don't know everything that you have endured in your lifetime, and you don't know everything I've endured during my short lifetime. As somebody that has studied history, and a great deal of Southern history, I understand your view completely. So, as one gentleman to another, I meant no offense to you but I was speaking my mind. You may not care, but this will be my last comment on the subject. :deadhorse

Slight correction-

"Egypitans were racists of the Jews during slavery."- "Egyptian" and "Jew" are not races. They are a nationality and a religion, respectively. The Egyptians and Jews that you speak of were both what we consider today as Black. Their conflict was not over race, it was over religion and power.

Don't you try to throw me in your generalization, I am not a part of "WE" in this crap.... :nonono2:

I was speaking more of one group of people mistreating another group. I know they are a nationality and religion, that's my error. Speaking from a Rabbi that I heard teach Jewish History, and you may know different, but this man taught us that the Jewish people consider themselves a race. That is why I used the example of the Jewish captivity. That's one reason why Adolf hated them, he considered them an inferior people. But let's not discuss this topic or another topic like this any further, because there are people that take this subject to heart and get fired up over it like the gentleman from Jackson.
